Subject description: What to do?

Puppy 4.3.1

I recently had this message appear on the screen: “Warning: Personal storage file getting full, strongly recommend you resize it or delete files”.

I assumed that the Personal storage file it referred to was the pupsave file. I increased its size and rebooted and that solved the problem. However, rebooting took longer, probably since saving the larger file and reloading it took longer. Would it have been better to have deleted some files and kept the same size pupsave file? And if so, where wouldl I delete files from?

hey 431

savefile space is taken up with any programs you have installed and browser cache

I suspect the browser, clear the cache and see what difference it makes (mouse-over the taskbar icon)

And all your downloads that you have kept. Move them to a disk outside the Pupsave.

Another alternative is to use Quirky6+ or Quirky Tahr 6+ : no longer a save file to worry about.

This computer is not connected to the internet yet so I haven't used the browser.

I haven't installed that many programs and they were not that big. Is there anything else that is saved that I might be able to delete like programs that were installed with the distro that I don't need?

Here's a good thread about why, and how to address the issue -

Boot took longer because the resize process is done at next boot. Boots after that should not take as long.
