The browse icon you'd have to recreate.

For the icon, try unpacking my attachment to /usr/share/pixmaps, then run: fixmenus
firefox.png.gz
Description
gz

 Download
Filename  firefox.png.gz

If pixmaps didn't work, go into /tmp/firefox/browser/chrome/icons/default and unload each to /usr/share/icons/hicolor and rerun: fixmenus.

1. "try unpacking my attachment to /usr/share/pixmaps"
Downloaded the gz file to "/mnt/home/00/semme", unpacked it to there, tried to copy it to "/usr/share/pixmaps", but Xfe reported that file already exists.
Should I overwrite the existing copy?

2. "If pixmaps didn't work, go into /tmp/firefox/browser/chrome/icons/default"
/tmp/firefox doesn't exist.
/usr/share/icons/hicolor does exist.

If a real icon for 1, nevermind. For 2 I forgot, you rebooted. Those files are in the unpacked FF.

Extract the pkg to /tmp and you'll see..

1. "If a real icon for 1, nevermind."
It isn't a real icon, it's only a LINK to an icon.
The link leads to "/usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/firefox.png", and that appears to be a real icon image file.

2. "Extract the pkg to /tmp and you'll see.."
Done/seen.
What now? fixmenus?
I'll do that regardless right now. Surely can't do any harm.
Done, but made no difference.
It'd be better if you did this stuff using TeamViewer.

Open FF's desktop file and spec the icon line with:
Code:
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/256x256/apps/firefox.png

.. then run fixmenus.

Did the above...
No fix...
Then ran "Menu->Shutdown->Restart graphical server"...
That produced a fix. Very Happy
i.e. It finished the fix.

Actually, try TV ONE more time. I made an adjustment..

Hello, Mick & folks.

I'd like to use Nvidia proprietary drivers for my old GeForce4 MX 440
AGP 8x. Looking around forum didn't help much and it seems there's no pre-compiled versions of NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.23 for Slacko 5.70.

I've downloaded/loaded devx & kernel source for Non PAE k.3.4.82 and tried to build it myself but had no success so far.
Here's an error message from /var/log/nvidia-installer.log:

Code:
nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log'
creation time: Mon Jun 22 12:40:59 2015
installer version: 1.0.7

PATH:
/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R7/bin:/root/my-applicatio
ns/bin:/usr/games

Prompt error looks like this:

Code:
Error: No rule to make target /lib/modules/3.4.82/source/rules.make'

Does it mean that there is no kernel support for this card or I should find/load additional headers/modules?

Thanks.

P.S. Otherwise, Slacko 5.70 works great on this old Athlon2500/1+GB RAM machine. Smile

Hi All
Mick great job. Thanks to you I have found my favorite will use for ever
puppy.

In Slacko 5.7 there is a Desktop folder located in the root directory.
What is it for and how does one use it?

Thank you for your time in reading this E-mail.

Best Regards
John

other desktop environments such as xfce use the desktop folder. items put in there appear on its desktop.

it's not really used with puppy's default jwm & rox
