Next release of FatdogArm will run on cubox-i - the i4 and i2 series.

Will have more changes other than the kernel/bootloader(/video diver)?

No, not really. There are apps that would be nice to have in the repo but I do not see the need for any core additions.

samba4 is in the repo. samba-tng is part of basesfs, I think. I think pure-ftpd is also in the repo. Do you need anything else?

Wish I knew. Saw someone did it last year for the mele 1000 when everyone was turning it into servers. Does Hostpad sound right it was part of the setting for the chipset inside mele.
Samba would work thanks. still would like povray but not a big deal a on screen keyboard would be nice had one compiled but unable to get work. Something else was grabing the hooks or not letting it go.
My one year self ban on cool new toys end soon, what is out there that is capable ( VGA etc Sata wifi etc like mele is but with upsized speed and ram higher. ) or a nice hackable tablet?

Not quite understanding the techtalk here and there but might be of interest: kind of pc running linux android simultaneously or something like that,

"Volks-pc" means "People's pc"

@Ted dog, I'll look at it.

@Nancy - yes, that's interesting. Unfortunately they don't share a lot at the moment. There are always two possibilities to do this:
a) run android kernel and the run linux userland on top of android.
b) run standard linux kernel and have linux userland running side-by-side with android (or may be running android on top).

Most solutions on the web do a). If volkspc does b), that would be interesting. In theory it's not too difficult, most of android stuff are Java anyway ... so one only needs to get the underlying Java VM running and the rest should fall in place (again, in theory). It does require you to understand android's internal workings, though Wink

@JamesB
If I understood well, the dev on the topic of cnx-software.com offered in "replies" a testversion or something of the like ?

Not really. I think someone there pointed out some tarballs (=package) with binaries (=programs, libraries) as well as a kernel module that is tied specifically to the kernel and Android version that runs on MK808.

That's it. Not even an image that we can put into SD card (or flash into the device) so we can get it running. And it is specifically tied to MK808. That tarball specifically contains an implementation of the MicroXwin idea (how to accelerate Linux graphics using Android stack) - not the whole side-by-side Android/Linux idea.

The idea does have its merits, though.
