System check says updates didn't

#1 Post by bambuko »

I have updated all my machines to the latest 6.0.2
was told that update was completed and sucessful (further confirmed that the option to update dissapeared from package manager, and yet...

whenever I do system check it tells me that distribution is tahrpup - 6.0.1

I am puzzled :?

hi bambuko

if you've installed the service pack then you're updated.

the problem is that the file where puppy gets its version info /etc/DISTRO_SPECS is inside the initrd. if you make a change to the file, on reboot it just reverts to the one in the initrd.

clicking on help (either in the menu or on the desktop) should tell you the version ie 6.0.2 with service packs

Yes, I am reasonably confident that the update was fine, but being doddery old bugger by tomorrow (well... probably today afternoon) I will not remember whether I did it or not and will want to check which version I am using, so I will go system>hardinfo or partview or others and they all insist that I have 6.0.1 not 6.0.2
OK, menu>help sends me to 6.0.2 help page, but...

my question is:
why was it possible to do it when 6.0 was updated to 6.0.1 but not when 6.0.1 was updated to 6.0.2 :?

and, shouldn't things like hardinfo or partview give you correct info?

anyway... it is no biggie :D just one of these things that bothers an OCD like myself
