Testing TahrPup 5.8.2

Code: Select all

# modinfo ndiswrapper
modinfo: ERROR: Module ndiswrapper not found.
#
Perhaps this needs compiling if you are sticking with this kernel?
Otherwise so far so good. nVidia GeForce FX5200 working OK with nouveau driver.

Code: Select all

# export vblank_mode=0
# glxgears
gives an FPS of around 450
Ah, EDIT, just to add, Psync 2.10 by npierce is here:-
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=117
i didn't realise ndiswrapper had a kernel module ,,,, i'll compile it for the next build, and ill probably up the kernel version to 3.12.22 or 3.12.23 as more bugs should have been worked out.

Here is a trick I use in woof.

Any package known to break the system i just delete from the package list. (And this really should be applied to petget when updating the databases too)

Code: Select all

sed -i '/^udev/d' rootfs-complete/root/.packages/Packages-slackware*-14.0-official
You can put it in a pinstall.sh but it should be a default in woof. I'll have a think about how to implement it. I suppose, to be more complete, it should be deleted from all the dependency lists too.

Maybe your idea is better, fooling PPM into thinking that it is installed already.. less work!

I excluded certain distro downloadable packages by using /root/.packages/PKGS_MANAGEMENT file....

something like this, cutted from my Upup build file:

case $DISTRO_BINARY_COMPAT in #for precise, added by pemasu 16112012
ubuntu)
PKG_NAME_IGNORE=" adduser debconf libglib2.0-bin libglib2.0-0 libglib2.0-data libglib2.0-dev menu ttf-dejavu ttf-dejavu-core ttf-dejavu-extra libgoffice-0.10-10 libgoffice-0.10-10-common libgoffice-0.10-dev gnumeric gnumeric-common gnumeric-plugins-extra gir1.2-gnumeric ${PKG_NAME_IGNORE}"
;;

Not sure if this is still applicable with recent woof-ce.

5.8.2. UPGRADE

#162 Post by sszindian »

Allowed the 'UpGrade' to auto perform from Tahrpup-5.8.1.5 to Tahrpup-5.8.2-SCSI All appeared to go well except for the usual change back to the new default background and default desktop icons... No big deal to pt back the new ones however, probably not a nice thing for a NEW user to Puppy... An option to retain your current config'd OLD desktop or install the NEW desktop would be a nice feature in the UPDATE. Puppy has been like this forever so maybe someone can change that?

If you want to use- Google_Earth-6.0.3.2197-luki.sfs in Tahrpup go to-

/opt/google/earth/free/

When there, rename the 'libcurl.so.4' file to something else like- OLD-libcurl.so.4

This will allow the 'search function' to work properly at the googleearth main page.

So far all's looking good!!!

It seems Tahrpup doesn't have ffmpeg, required by some apps. I had no luck trying the Trusty Tahr repos. Is there a pet of ffmpeg for Tahrpup?

hi vicmz

see this http://askubuntu.com/questions/432542/i ... s-in-14-04

the static builds linked to there fire up ... or you could try symlinking /usr/bin/libav stuff calling it ffmpeg

tahrpup 5.8.3 uploaded

this tahr is built using the new build method that allows easy changing of kernels.

it ships with kernel 3.14.11 but you can easily change it by downloading a new one from the 'kernels-huge' folder (in my dropbox) unzipping it and copying the vmlinuz & zdrive.sfs over the ones in your install directory.
there's four to choose from 3.12.22, 3.14.11, 3.15.4 & 3.9.94no pae from slacko. or build your own using the kernel kit in woof-ce

i've also added 'quickpet' although not everything is working at the moment.
