Rfunning from a Slacko64 distro with QEMU V2 and @MikeB's "Launch" utility (see below). No JOY in getting to desktop. TahrPUP cannot find a suitable driver on its own.

In order to get to desktop, currently, we are required to enter "-vga std" on the Extra Parameters line of the Launcher to force the virtual machine into VESA mode.

This PUP runs faster in a KVMguest than in native mode.

This pup seems to take a little longer to load (iso burned to cd). A minor inconvenience but I thought it worth the mention.

Hi, 666philb.

In your version 5.8.3, I seem to be getting a screen refresh (sort of a very
rapid white line "scan" across the screen) every 20 seconds or so. That
didn't happen in the previous versions. Have you changed the Xorg version
or the default nvidia driver in this version?

Otherwise, all good.

Others, don't mind, Musher0 however is my best partner. Philb, musher0 hates Facebook too. Nevertheless i saw tahrpup in facebook, perhaps brand new users arrive soon. We shall have to explain again how to do with a Puppy. :)

@all:
I don't know this guy pelo! :) Abiword 2.8.6 is a wrong choice, considering
abiword is now at version 3.0.0.

@pelo:
Have you been tanking up on this wonderful Provençal pastis again? :)
Don't start any rumors, now: how could I know your "housewife"? We
(you and I, and your "housewife" and I) are one ocean and one sea apart

your wife! Unless my ex French-from-France girlfriend Jeanne is now
shagging up with you?

Anyway, please do not use my nickname to validate your opinions! Your

hi!
I have a problem:

after installing xkb-data_2.10.1-1ubuntu1_all.deb from ubuntu repo, (and after X restart) my keyboard doesn't work any more.
It is a dependency for workrave.

hi musher0,

the kernel has changed in this version and probably (hopefully :) ) it's to do with that.
you can change back to the older kernel (or try a newer) to see if that resolves it ... kernels here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/czf7b44ob03v ... DYR1PaDpca unzip the kernel and copy the vmlinuz and zdrv.sfs over the installed ones .. then reboot

thanks for finding that ... i was wondering which deb was causing that! ... just uninstall it and your keyboard should come back (maybe need reboot) & work-rave should work without it.

it'll need to be blacklisted .. i'll put a fix in quickpet

Thanks for the info, philb.
I'll try to revert to the previous kernel (this is an older machine...).

I had some save file issues from USB (ext2) install. At shutdown, it hung. After rebooting it worked fine until the auto 30 minute save (would you consider defaulting it to zero in future updates?). Crashed me, again. Still a nice distro and nothing lost on my end. I just thought you might want to know. Specs for my old Dell below:

pata shows as usb drive

The drive icon of my pata HDD shows as a USB drive.

On slacko-593, it is /dev/sdc and shows ata drive:
# probedisk2
/dev/sda|drive|ATA ADATA SSD S510 1
/dev/sdb|drive|ATA ST32000542AS
/dev/sdc|drive|ATA WDC WD1600BB-00D
/dev/sdd|usbdrv|FLASH Drive SM_USB20
/dev/sr0|optical|PIONEER BD-RW BDR-206D

But on TahrPup-583, probedisk2 says it is /dev/sdd and shows usb drive:
# probedisk2
/dev/sda|drive|ATA ADATA SSD S510 1
/dev/sdb|drive|ATA ST32000542AS
/dev/sdc|usbdrv|FLASH Drive SM_USB20
/dev/sdd|usbdrv|ATA WDC WD1600BB-00D
/dev/sr0|optical|PIONEER BD-RW BDR-206D

On TahrPup-583, sdd is missing in the ATDRIVES list in /etc/rc.d/PUPSTATE:
#ATADRIVES is all internal ide/pata/sata drives, excluding optical, excluding usb...
ATADRIVES='sda sdb '

Meanwhile /sys/block shows sdd is ata.
# ls -d /sys/block/sd* | xargs readlink
../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/ata1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sda
../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.2/ata2/host1/target1:0:1/1:0:1:0/block/sdb
../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb2/2-3/2-3:1.0/host4/target4:0:0/4:0:0:0/block/sdc
../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.4/0000:03:00.0/ata5/host5/target5:0:0/5:0:0:0/block/sdd

I tested the TahrPup-583-forcepae with pfix=ram, rdsh boot option.
Executed a comand 'ls -d /sys/block/sd*'.
It shows only sda, sdb, sdc, where sda and sdb is sata and sdc is usb.
Tha pata is missing here.

I guess some module for pata (maybe pata_marvell) is missing in the initramfs.

Hello, 666philb.

My problem disappeared using your kernel 3.4.94 non pae -- three-dot-four-dot-ninety-four.
Unwittingly, no doubt, you introduced a typo at
