Hi,
666philb wrote:hi augras, is the webcam working in skype on tahrpup?
Yes, the problem is only with guvcview !
And, it's an other question, i don't understand why the computer is faster with tahrpup 5.8.3 rc1 than with 5.8.4 : with 5.8.4 the harddisk is always run (frugal install)!

Tahr584 frugal install with savefile on fat32
With pfix=ram all works ok.

With pae version and a savefile audio stops working.
Sometimes keyboard and mouse cursor stop working.
If I use pfix=fsck then it seems to work ok.

Havent found these problems with the non pae version.

After using either version with a savefile and rebooting Windows7 always wants to scan the partition as it thinks something isnt right.

Precise and Slacko work ok.

Hi 666philb,
Tons of thanks for this !
have got a try on a pentium4 featured PC with 82845G-Brookdale video chip ... and got X displayed OK after the first restart X server without "black screen" :D

Any possibility to get tahr-5.8.4 coming with gnumeric-1.10.17 instead of 1.10.16?

Cheers, Charlie

I think that Win7 keeps a hash table and when he boots he uses that in an effort to insure that at desktop turnover, you have a set of filesystems Win7 thinks is clean. I seem to remember something that covers what you are witnessing on Win7 boot.

Check you FAT partition (drive letter) on Win desktop to see if your Linux files remain at Win7 desktop time. I believe they do.

Hope this help.

No sound here either, unfortunately; I'm running TahrPup 5.8.4 non-PAE live, and have an ICE1724 soundcard. Otherwise, it's working well (and it's good to be able to run PaleMoon on such an old machine as this one).

The following process worked for me:
Goto Menu->Setup->Multiple Sound Card Wizard
Click on the item that is the sound card you are using->OK
Should see, "Sound card now set as default:" 'hw:n' (mine is 'hw:1'), remember the 'n'.
Exit out of Retrovol

Right click 'Retrovol' in tray->Config Window->Hardware
Change 'hw:0' to match 'n' from above, (mine is 'hw:1')->Apply

Thanks, I'll try this suggestion the next time I use TahrPup.

Back running live on the octo-core.

5.8.4 pae version on a pfix=ram boot kernel panics every attempt.Tried several times.
Booting pfix=ram, nox however, does boot to a prompt...xorgwizard only allows the modesetting driver (not nouveau),will pass the test but the goes to a non-responsive blinking cursor.Total no go.

But,the non-pae versions boots straight to the correct 1920x1080 desktop with working internet.Still no damn sound though. :)

Both versions appear to be working pretty normally on a bit older hardware though.

Thank you very much for developing this awesome distro!
I only have one remark: I cannot get my audio to work in either 5.8.3 or 5.8.4, nor in Slacko 5.4 Opera. My sound-chip is a ALC892 (Intel HDA/Azalia) on a Asrock E350M1 board. When I play audio, I don't hear anything on my 3.5mm headphones or HiFi-system. Changing the output mode in the ALSA mixer doesn't matter (S/PDIF,HDMI and analog).
What also seems a little weird is that I cannot change anything, I can only put a tick in box for the digital output (even when I have "Analog" selected).
Now Puppy does not recognize any sound card.

I have already tried the realtek drivers you posted without result.

Do you know what might be causing the problem?

Hi @Philh.

I know this is a little late, but, if may help others, too, who have a Windows PC and also use PUPs on that PC. From time to time we need to adjust partition sizes for various normal needs.

See this thread for a simple guideline.

Hope this helps in the future

5.8.4 PAE was a total no-go on the 8-core box but zero problems on this older quad-core box. Manual frugal install.
