ISO Burner
ill Burniso2cd work in Slacko 5.9.3? If it does where in the repositories will I find the pet. Pburn has never worked for me (always asks for the image to be unpacked and then the dvd never works). I hope to see burniso2cd in the final release of Slacko 6.0 it is simple and always works for me.
I had to boot an old 5.3.3 disk to use it. Guess 5.9.3 is working so well that my copy of 5.7 got tossed when my wife was cleaning. LOL

Re: ISO Burner
I believe that burniso2cd is now a "hidden" menu item. There is a tool somewhere in the menus to unhide it.Fishy wrote:ill Burniso2cd work in Slacko 5.9.3?
Or you can get PeasyDisc. It used to be in woof-built Puppies, but got removed.
Burniso2cd
Thank you, thank you for pointing out that this app was still there. I haven't had to ever use menu-editor in all the years of Puppy use. It just works. I cringe when I have to turn on wife's window box.
Re: ISO Burner
If you want to help out making pBurn better, I am very interested in more detailed info likeFishy wrote:Pburn has never worked for me (always asks for the image to be unpacked and then the dvd never works).
- did you use a blank disc or is it a DVD-RW? If RW, did you blank it first or did you let pBurn set it to overwrite mode? (you reached the 'Inserted disc is not blank' dialog)
- did pBurn report success (finish-dialog) or error (error-dialog)? Can you show the logfile?
- ...
If burniso2CD makes it, there is no reason for pBurn not to do so. - they share the code for burning iso-images.

I have had numerous problems with pburn relative to rewritable DVD's... many times pburn will not erase them nor burn iso's to them.
Anyway, I no longer use pburn. Instead, I have been using xfburn (installed via a .pet). I can't use burniso2cd because there is no erase capability.
Thanks "rcrsn51" ... I just downloaded and installed PeasyDisc. It worked quite well for me.

Zigbert is the developer of pBurn, so any feedback you can give on the problems you've encountered could help him sort them out. The development thread is at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=23881yr1945 wrote:I have had numerous problems with pburn relative to rewritable DVD's

Hi yr1945 et al,
Burniso DOES actually BLANK and BURN DVDs automatically.
Attached is my amended copy that I use with the erroneous message corrected. Delete the last three fake (dot g z) characters, make it executable and try it by placing the file in any mounted location and left clicking it - any existing version of Burniso2cd will still work just as before - if you don't like my version - just delete the file.
It initially asks a question so mouse over the message to continue when you will see on the first page that the CD - DVD order has been reversed and the descriptions thereof amended. The third page has been set to my personal preference.
My regards
rcrsn51 has kindly provided an alternative PeasyDisc app which like Zigbert's Pburn is also excellent. They also can burn iso's, but they also do much more besides. Though for iso's I like BarryK's Burniso.
I don't have Bluray, I suspect that Burniso, Pburn and PeasyDisc can all use it - but as I don't actually know - perhaps someone who does know can advise.
Edit: screen shot added some 12 hours later

Yes, the solution exist, '_root_.jwmrc' is translated by 'usr/share/sss/menu_strings/menu_strings'zigbert wrote:The 'Help' and 'Leave' menu-items are not translated - as the original jwmrc-template. I haven't seen a solution for this. Anyone?
but the existing 'menu_strings' is the version for 570 not for 600. I tried to edit or translate it but jwm crashes. If it's possible edit it also serves for the menu.

I didn't know - thank you
The menu-strings file missed
But 'Help' should work as is
If jwm crashes, it is most likely because you didn't quote you nls-string.

01micko,
Something to consider making sure is not a problem.
I agree, the color choices used are not good for some peoples ability to see colors.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Broadcom not working
I have an Broadcom BCM4306 in my old laptop.
The last Puppy's that worked with that card were Slacko 5.6 and Puppy Precise 5.71.
I cannot get it to work in slacko 5.9.3.6 either.
Mind you: I believe it to be a kernel problem, because I cannot get it to work with any modern distribution neither.
The problem started with Ubuntu Saucy and derivates. The card does not work with any Ubuntu anymore after Quantal.
Also plenty of other distro's as well that do not recognize the BCM4306 card anymore, although the files or in the firmware folder.
I assume this is a kernel problem.
Bert.

Have you checked this:
I have noticed a post or 2 about the firmware not being unpacked from the /lib/modules/all-firmware to /lib/firmware.
In /lib/modules/all-firmware
Look for the name that will match your device.
Just unpack it.
Place it into /lib/firmware

Didn't help nothing.
And as I told: I also have this issue with many other distro's, starting from about a year ago.
This happend before with the rt2500 driver some years ago (I believe it was since Ubuntu Hardy. It was finally solved in the kernel with Lucid.
Now this starts all over again with the b43 cards.
I guess I'll just have to wait until they'll fix this.
