Manual frugal install to a 16gb sdhc card, pc is an emachines D620
laptop.
video-info-glx 1.5.3 Wed 25 Jun 2014 on Slacko64 Puppy 5.9.1 Linux 3.12.22 x86_64

oem: ATI ATOMBIOS
product: RS690 01.00
X Server: Xorg Driver: radeon
X.Org version: 1.14.3
dimensions: 1280x800 pixels (338x211 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org R300 Project
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on ATI RS690
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 9.1.7

AMD Athlon(tm) Processor 2650e
Core 0: @800 MHz

I used Dougal's network wizard to setup the broadcom wireless.
Installed a couple of apps with PPM.
I don't have sound working in VLC yet but sound is working with pmusic
so I think it will work once I get the settings correct.

Slacko64 alpha is pretty snappy on this not so powerful laptop.

EDIT:
Sound works fine with gnome-mplayer.

Frugal install of Slacko64 5.9.1.

Bug reports before I forget. Flashplayer downloader..... appears to download package then reports unable to download. No Flash downloaded.

Manually copied Flash from Slacko64 5.8.8 ..... not detected by Firefox.

Firewall settings lost on every reboot.Turn firewall on, but on next reboot it's off.

I think the reasons for this are the broken symlinks from /usr/bin/{bash,grep} to /bin/ (both firewall and getflash)

As for flash not being recognised it's likely an LD_LIBRARY_PATH issue. Both should be easy to fix.

Thanks
Code:
ln -sf /bin/grep  ../usr/bin/grep
ln -sf /bin/bash  ../usr/bin/bash

Confirmed fixes both.. didn't touch LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

Confirmed here as well both on the frugal install and running live.

I downloaded all this with the PPM to get Flash working....about 30 mb of apparently unnecessary stuff.... Laughing

It seems that some SlackBuilds work better that others, I did the
SlackBuild for Dosbox-0.74 and it produced a
dosbox-0.74-x86_64-2_SBo.tgz that installed and works when clicked on.
Dosbox runs well even on this single core laptop.

Hello, yesterday I downloaded the iso of the new slacky and, finally, the devices were recognized. Now I want to install it but I need a hand to the Grub since I installed Sabayon Xfce, and I do not want to make trouble.

hi and good work with slacko puppy Smile
but i'm having problems booting slacko64 5.6-9 versions using uui.
it says puppy_slacko64_5.9.1.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial-ramdisk console...
/bin/sh: can't access tty; Job control turned off
with a dvd rw disk i had, would be like hit and miss booting 5.8 version. sometimes boots other times the error appears.
but with usb will never boot in my sandy bridge machine.
why can't i boot slacko64 from usb?

I did a manual frugal install to a 16gb flash drive and tested it on a
pc with newer intel graphics.
The mouse was slow moving, plugging a drive into a usb port was slow
to mount and read.
Seems that anything to do with usb was slow.

Then I moved the flash drive to a pc with nvidia graphics and using
the nouveau driver, everything is good, mouse is working correctly and
when plugging in a usb device it's mounted quickly.

Hey Billtoo.

Hmmm.. maybe the kernel is a bit old for recent intel?

You could try one of stemsee's kernels or build one your self, easy swappin' with the new setup.

Cheers!

When it booted up on the pc with sandybridge/ivybridge (forget which it is) disable interrupt 16 was on the screen for a second or two.
The interrupt 16 doesn't show up when it boots on this nvidia pc.

Could that be it or is that message normal on a pc with intel graphics?

EDIT:
I just booted up the pc with intel graphics again to double check, it has ivybridge graphics and the message is "disabling IRQ 16"

Mouse problem still there, also mounting/reading flash drive is very slow.
