I think I will drag up threads from up to 8 years ago in order to clutter up an already busy forum.... would that annoy users?

As I am new to Linux I have dragged up some old threads in search of answers or clarification for some study or app done in the past.

I have even dragged up a thread by posting in it just to make a bookmark for future reference. So that I can easily find it again by clicking "view your post" on main forum index after logging in. I keep changing OS or deleting savefiles, so many times the bookmarks on my PC get lost.

That said, if it's done needlessly, it would surely annoy some people.

Very annoying.

Annoying unless it's in regard to Osmo threads. Laughing

Isn't there a way where old posts can be archived as view only? That would resolve the issue, no? I wasn't using Puppy 8 years ago but I generally don't post to old threads unless I don't realize at the time that they're a year or so old.

There's bound to be occasions when a new user would like clarification of an answer (that may actually be out of date) to a question/subject raised and discussed in old posts.
We should be encouraging people to look up stuff before asking a question that may have been answered many times before??

I agree with this approach, but there are several things that must occur for which there is no "standard" for lookup.

It would be nice if there was some mechanism or app that when a question is presented, a list would generate with some most likely answers prior to launching the question into the forum. I think we all see this kind of benefit and understand how it would save manhours. But, to do so, would be a "change" and we are all too aware of how users react to change.
  • Are there benecial approaches:? YES
  • Will users abide this kind of preliminary to getting their questions into forum? ???
  • Will users react to missing old threads? again, ???

you mean like every other technical forum in the world in order to solve space usage/server load problems, repetition of information and perpetuation of the obsolete stuff... that is not the puppy way Very Happy

Well, good then! That gives me a chance to dust off my dot matrix printer from the 80's and get it working again! Nothing like the clicking of the old dot matrix to drive a person crazy! Just thinking of it makes the Osmo posts bearable. Laughing

PostPosted: Sat 12 Jul 2014, 14:50    Post subject: Old topic useless ?
Subject description: Either delete them, either let them here, Old info is not so bad !

We often find more answers in Old post than in new one? first because of some applications were of some interest for the users at this time, when the were fashion, brand new..
The fine exit would be to resume answers in a topic specific to an application, rather starting from zero each time.
Why do i get old topics ? because i Think that my problem was studied before.
I use the search tool ascending, older posts first.
The rule is the same with a topic, newest messages are at the end.

So why the search tool is descending by default ? The descending is made for the HDQ to answer the new questions

OSMO ; because you speak about it : bugs should be solved in the next OSMO issue. They are known, they are registered.

I give the solutions to unanswered questions (answers found in Ubuntu forum) when they exist. Some unanswered posts are still here, because the problem is not solved. That is the reason why administrators let them running, no ?
Pointlessly ? no (but to avoid creating a new one, pertinently, yes!) Boring would be the right word. sorry users use the menu. Not only for modifying the puppy's program or process. Some people are only using Puppy to really work with it, not only installing and then bye bye...

Hi Mike...

In my case, I have done it to let folks know I've resolved a problem that I had written about in case it might help others. As you may have already seen, an example can be found here. Wink

Regards...

PostPosted: Sat 12 Jul 2014, 23:26    Post subject: Sarting a new thread ? anarchic !
Subject description: a subject must be in one place, to get finalized in the wikki

Not really that hard to start a new thread, is it?.

It's the bad way, anarchic way of doing. Users prefers to find answers in same place. Encyclopedies, dictionnaries, wikki agree with me.

The wikki shall do it, but the wikki is not updated regularly, and think about people not english speaking, Help desk is done for helping them to because they often hardly understand how to to.

good topic read it. Everybody ask questions after the others ones since 2011. And do not create new ones!
The reality is some subjects are boring you. You are interested only in installing, and let user alone with video, graphics, and business that you have never been using ! See business category, it's not popular but i am sorry, i need it to work ! there are subjects that you are trying to bury!

PostPosted: Sun 13 Jul 2014, 00:32    Post subject:  Answer our posts ! 2012 planner, grisbi homebank

Add grisbi, planner, homebank in your business list ( asked in 2012 !)
Will you start a new topic for these three ???? Mad Mad
My posts about OSMO are not questions but answers about bugs still alive in 2014 ! It's a process to do the job.
People not interested in OSMo , in office stuff, let users in peace. If you don't want to help them, it would be nice that you don't try censuring them !
bigpup list the business programs >>> abiword 2.8.2 2010 !
Please...
