Subject description: Friesbee doesn't recognize my router next door (TP-Link/Atheros)

Hi,
I've just bought a used Fujitsu/Siemens AMILO Mini Ui 3520 computer with Windows 7 Home Premium installed and with an Atheros AR500 7EG wi-fi. It finds the router and I can connect easily. But when I launch Puppy Linux Slacko 5.7 from a pendrive, Frisbee won't find the router next door. (Finds a lot of others, much farther down.) On the other hand I could connect easily to a public internet cafe (with no enryption).

How could I reach my own router under Slacko? Should I download a PET package? If so, which one? (This minicomputer does not have a CD reader, so I can only communicate with it using a pendrive.)

I haven't seen any discussion in this particular matter.

Thank you for a hint in advance.

Gabor

Have a look at PeasyWifi. It will give you more personal control over your connections than Frisbee.

However, the two WiFi managers conflict with each other. You will need to unload Frisbee before PeasyWifi can work correctly.

Please report back. PeasyWifi is under active development and your input is important.

Yes, thanks, I had read your posts before I looked for help.
The problem is, I know too little to change the current
setting, to load and unload. Especially that I have no
clue why this simple router was not even listed
among the available networks. Very likely, my
neighbors use the same D-Link, and Atheros worked
fine under Windows 7. (During the years, I have
developed a disgust toward the whole Windows
project, this is why I would love to change.)

I will try PeasyWifi at some time. The instructions you
had given were a little discouraging. Frisbee worked
much better on my desktop than the original setup,
which needed a lot of detail. Perhaps the best solution
would be a new Frisbee which would include your innovation.

No. The best solution would be for you to ask more questions. This project is not about improving Frisbee. It's about replacing it with something better.

Open a terminal window and type the command
Code:
iwconfig

This will identify your wifi adapter - wlan0, eth1, etc.
Type the commands
Code:
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwlist wlan0 scan | grep ESSID

Does your router appear in this list?

I have posted instructions for getting rid of Frisbee here.
