Which Application to Use To Open Link

I am having difficulty opening a link in T-bird in one environment, but, not in the other.

Bear with me as I give you the two different environment configurations.

When I use this configuration, let's call it ZaReason config:

Puppy 5.7.1
Seamonkey Browser 2.19
Thunderbird Mail Client 31.0
Gmail as email provider
Machine is Zareason Big Lap Laptop

Thunderbird asked which application would I like to use to open a specific link in an incoming email.
The link is https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet ...
I mistakenly put in usr/share/applications/Seamonkey.
I think I should have put in usr/lib/Seamonkey.
Now only that specific Google link in the T-bird mail won't open.
Other different links from other emails do open in T-bird (they don't ask for which application to use).
The Google docs link opens fine when I access it from Seamonkey directly (not through T-bird).
I'm thinking I need to change the application preference to usr/lib/Seamonkey.
Am I correct to think this is the issue?

Machine is Dell Inspiron 600m not portable

The Google docs link https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet opens with no issues in T-bird.

I am taking the ZaReason machine to a meeting tomorrow. (The Dell is not portable)

Shown below is 'Default Application Chooser' which is listed in 571 menu/setup.

If the file behind the link is a spreadsheet file like .xls, it would make more sense to assign it to a spreadsheet program like gnumeric than the seamonkey web browser.

Look through the Thunderbird settings to find where these default applications are defined.

OK, I think I'm beginning to understand and your clues shed light on issues in the past about what application to choose.
Semme, how in the world do you find these references, like the mozillaZine ref?

What I notice is that T-Bird preferences has an 'always ask' action when incoming content type is https.
Other incoming content type which does open without issue is http.

Yes, rcrsn51, the Google Doc content is a secured spreadsheet sent to a group of people to edit so the whole group can see the entries.

When the application chooser asks what app to open the incoming https content will my choice of application apply only to that one specific incoming content link or will it apply to any incoming https content?

I just looked at the T-Bird preferences on my Dell setup with Puppy-528.
The preferences do not list http or https as a content type to which an action can be applied. So, no issues on why 528 and T-bird open https.

There's no harm in renaming /root/.thunderbird/*.default/mimeTypes.rdf, then having TB start with a clean slate.
