There is revised version of mhwaveedit available from fatdog 64 720 ibiblio repository.

It solves the missing label text problem.

http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/packag ... 6_64-1.txz
I installed it in fatdog710 and it worked in that version of fatdog as well.

#247 Post by smokey01 »

Does anyone know of or have a package suitable for a Brother-J415W printer.
I am using Fatdog-720.
I have tried http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/fatdog/ ... 6_64-1.txz which is in the repository but it doesn't work as the model is not included.
I have also tried the Brother web site: http://support.brother.com/g/b/download ... cj415w_all but have not been successful as yet.
I need the scanner driver as well and possibly the Fax but I'm sure the fax will not work on the NBN system in Australia.
Some guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The following sfs is a hybrid file including the drivers for your printer and scanner.

<link_removed>

I was unable to get the hardware ID for your printer to add it to the list for scanner support. If you can get the ID, either in Windows or using a linux distro with out of the box support for your printer (Ubuntu?) - maybe it could be added here: brother-print-scan-modified/opt/brother/scanner/brscan4/models4

EDIT: This might work better: <link_removed>

jake29, I tried both the sfs and the archived package, neither worked.

At first I thought it was a completely new package but then realised you had modified the Brother package already included in the repo. I then loaded ghostscript. I always have the 32bit libs and devx loaded. I didn't load perl as it's included in the devx.

When I tried the sfs there was no way the doinst.sh could run because there was no /tmp/sfs/autorun.sh file. I added this substituting doinst.sh for autorun.sh. This then caused the script to be run when the sfs was loaded but the printer or scanner still did not work.

I then opened your xz file and noticed it included /aufs/devsave, probably not a good idea. Anyway no big deal I simply arranged it into a legitimate package and installed it. Still no worky. There seems to be some strange behavior in the doinst.sh script where it links ln -s /opt/brother/Printers/BrGenML1/inf/brBrGenML1rc /etc/opt/brother/Printers/BrGenML1/inf/brBrGenML1rc. I don't think I've seen an opt directory under /etc before.

Anyway the problem is cups can't find the driver. CUPS finds the printer OK when connected but it can't find the driver. I have even tried using the ppd file instead of the driver and that didn't work either.

I'm out of options, any other ideas?

Thanks

@smokey01 - Sorry for the delay - HDD failure on my desktop. Hardware ID of the printer is probably essential to allowing CUPS to find the driver. Are you able to get this ID? example: 0x0282,13,1,"MFC-J625DW"

Here is a corrected version of the file previously uploaded: brother-print-scan-modified_fixed.tar.xz

Thanks jake I will check it out. I now have my hands on the printer so I should be able to get the printer ID. Will advise.

jake29, tried your new package and it didn't work either.

Device ID appears to be 025c.
lsusb reports: Bus 007 Device 002: ID 04f9:025c Brother Industries, Ltd

I hope that helps.

I also run this machine as root, not spot. Too many restrictions using spot.

When it didn't work using your package, well I turned it into a package then installed it, I tried using just the ppd file and that didn't work either.

I was expecting to see the driver (mfc-j415w) show up in cups for selection. It didn't. Just two entries of BrGenML1 for CUPS (en).

I've solved the Brother MFC-J415W printer problem with a little help from CatDude.
There is a script that will download and install the appropriate drivers for your brother printer and scanner. Unfortunately the script did not work properly in Fatdog64-720 as it requires dpkg, a debian package installer. The dpkg in Fatdog is a cut down version in busybox. The good news a full version is available in the package manager so I installed that.

Download a copy of the Download Install Tool here:
http://support.brother.com/g/b/download ... &type3=625

Directions on running the script will be displayed after agreeing to the EULA.

Before running the script you need to load the 32bit library SFS then Install perl and ghostscript from the package manager.

Thanks to all who offered help.

resetmsmice

#259 Post by jake29 »

resetmsmice_fixed.sfs - This utility, resetmsmice, fixes scroll wheel issues with certain Wireless Microsoft mice in X.org, where the vertical wheel scrolls abnormally fast. Usage: 'Reset Now' and close.

SFS includes startup script.

Only required once per session. Without this utility, mouse usb transmitter needs to be unplugged and reconnected to resolve issue.

EDIT: Re-uploaded sfs due to missing files.
