PostPosted: Thu 30 Jun 2005, 19:55    Post subject:  Linksys wireless-b card driver install and setup. (Solved.)

I have had a lot of help from "Bladehunter", but I guess I just haven't quite
figured it out yet.

I have read every scrap of text and downloaded every file I could find,
but I still can't get my Linksys WPC11 ver4 to work.

I have tried all the suggestions in the forum with no luck.

I'm running cd-puppy-XFree86-4.4.0-atheros Installed on the hard drive.

I have an old Toshiba 4010CDS laptop with 160mb of ram

My internet access is a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless-B router, works fine in windows.

Here is my earlier post: http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic.php?t=860

I have a hunch that I'm not doing something right.

I hope somebody could walk me through it.

Any help would be appreciated Confused

Dude...did you download the linksys.tar.gz file I posted ?

untar so you have

/etc/ndiswrapper/net8180

Then read the wiki with regards to getting your wireless card going....

Thanks for the file you posted Smile

"Bladehunter" you seem to be the guy with the right stuff, I hope you
will be forgiving in my lack of "#linux".

Once I have done something "hands on" I don't forget it.

I downloaded it and untared it in /

I don't think the ndiswrapper is working right, or it might be missing
needed files.

The procedure for getting the card to work seemed to vary, depending
on who was posting.

The wiki seemed a little lacking in instructions.....a few examples, for
Laptop pcmcia cards might help a some.

The more I can learn the better off we will all be. I can then start helping people with computer problems with linux.

I have repaired a lot of PC's using Windows....but thats a lost cause.

I really think Linux is the way to go, even with the learning curve.

ok a quick run down

Step.1
This loads the driver (hopefully)
Code:
#modprobe ndiswrapper

Step.2
Check if the driver loaded and found a card you'll know if it has by the output.
Code:
#iwconfig

Step.3
Now, you know all your wireless parameters dont you ?
Browse the wiki for more info, the first 2 step are the biggies
