Is archive.org now HTML5? <SOLVED>

#1 Post by ThoriumBlvd »

I went to archive dot orrg pages to check on my iso details, just routine.

When I get there I notice all script, no images/media.
Recent change to bash 4.3.30
Puppy slacko-5.5XL (java js and flash 10 OK)

Site seems to be telling me js is not installed. java version is 1.6.35 IIRC

last week site was OK and displaying correctly.

Has the site gome HTML5? (FireFox23 here)

Java and JavaScript are two entirely different items. Your problem's most likely add-on related.

Code: Select all

firefox -safe-mode
Any reason you're running that dated build?

Using FF23 because "it isn't broken" anywhere else.
So far only archive org is showing this "bug".
Not sure where in the forum it belonged... seemed better to ask other regulars if

Bash update caused this
Browser caused this (config allows js to run)
Site caused this (its asking for "javascript" 1.6.x when display page code selected... maybe it needs java in browser?, FF23 = NO)

Like I said, it was OK, the only thing I did was update bash, so that seems most likely.

What you didn't say was how Bash was upgraded. Src install by you, or an official pkg?

I'll assume the previous version was 4.2.x? GNU.org offers patches..

Does the site render OK aboard another browser?

No problem viewing your iso (Puppy_Linux_slack57_ff23) and downloading worked using firefox 3.6 ...........

They seems to have a nice straightforward site compared to the geek nirvana that's the usual pain in the neck.

Saying that it might be giving you javascript crap IF your user agent makes them want to or java is detected...just a guess.

User agent wouldn't have been a problem from safe mode.

User agent is something I have to spoof for several sites to make them behave. Bad web design is everywhere...but in this case I don't think that is the case.

hmmm... I'm testing 8Geee's modified version of slack57-ff23.
This one is #3. I went to panopticlick.eff.org and I notice two changes since his original eee version. Clicking on TEST

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/23.0
which is OK... not spoofed

BUT supercookie test results are not identical to the original eee version
DOM localStorage: No, DOM sessionStorage: No, IE userData: No

Previously it was yes/yes/no

In the meantime I have DL'd the orig. eee version... no bash update and limited (by his sayso) FF23 config options. IMHO some config changes caused this. Also he related that AdBlock Edge was in basic easy-list only mode.

Considering your efforts and thanks for that, I'll check the ff23 config. I know lots of caches are zeroed and labled false in his updates.

OOPS: should mention that the bash patch was a pup file 4.3.30-1

solved AdBlock Edge

#10 Post by ThoriumBlvd »

I found out what the culprit is...
Its adBlockEdge

Turns out that 8Geee added a Malware site blocker in ABE.

Yup its listing archive dot org as a malware site and blocks all scripting from it!

Thread to be marked as solved
