Hey 666philb, I tried Macpup550 Precise on the VIA Unichrome PRO S3 IGP, and it worked fine with a 1024x768 resolution. (As you had asked which Puppy had worked with my computer)

Did you see this?

Tahrpup 6.0 CE no pae
Frugal install on hard drive partition
Running with save directory (folder)
Have made no graphic driver changes or downloads.
Using whatever was selected on initial boot.

I have updated Quickpet, so I know there are drivers available in Quickpet for my Nvidia hardware..

Menu->Setup->Video upgrade wizard

It offers nothing for a different driver to use.

Where does this program look for graphics drivers to upgrade with or is it not working?

This is the message I get:

Fresh install of Tahrpup 6.0

The first time you run Palemoon browser it opens to the Palemoon start page.

It would be better for a new user if it opened to the Puppy start page
file:///usr/share/doc/home.htm

Fresh install of Tahrpup 6.0

Quickpet

First time running the Tahrpup bug fixes

The results window gives a small list of installed fixes.

If you go to Quickpet->Help->Installed bug fixes you get a long list of bug fixes.

The help list is what was actually installed at that time.

The results list did not show all the bug fixes that where gotten at that time.
Seems to just show the latest group of bug fixes that have been added to bug fix repository.

Again, this was first time run, So the results list should have shown a long list of bug fixes, downloaded and installed.

Not a big problem, but something to consider possibly fixing..

I tried replacing both the files in the live usb and booting it. However, it's the same black screen as before.

non us-keyboard bug ?

#194 Post by charlie6 »

Hi,
here using tahr-6 PAE with be-latin1 keyboard (french for Belgium)

I have had a «non-us-keyboard-bug» alike problem:
typing character "a" in terminal resulted in "a" in terminal , and "q" in geany;

The md5sums of the tahr6.0.iso and sfs files in it were checked OK.

Same problem if creating a new fresh frugal install.

Things returned OK after deleting both /etc/keymap and /etc/keymap.previuos files; and starting again the Quick-first-run setting.

did someone else already encounter this ?

cheers, charlie

Thanks 666philb

I have compiled the Broadcom-STA wl.ko wifi drivers for tahr-3.17.4.....

The non-pae driver compiled "cleanly" with no unexpected messages but the pae driver did compile but produced quite a few warnings whilst doing so.

There is only one devx for tahrpup6.0CE? - in contrast Slacko5.7 has separate pae and non-pae devx's.... http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/di ... lacko-5.7/

Just wondering if tahrpup should also have 2 versions of devx?

Interestingly? the pae version installs and works ok on my HP laptop but the non-pae version says:
# modprobe wl
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'wl': Exec format error
# dmesg
wl: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout
Thanks

Hi @Charlie6

I have seen this problem occur when the system was booted in its beginning and the user overlooked entries in the initial "FirstRUN" screen.

Try this test to validate:
  1. Boot your system, pristine (pfix=ram)
  2. Fill in the FirstRUN screen accurately, including the hostname
  3. Click OK
  4. When X returns/restarts, try those keys again.
If they work as you expect, then reboot your "normal" system path.

Hope this helps

hi 666philb

Today I added proper support for VCDs

I played 2 VCDs successfully... all the other CDs were damaged I suppose...

I also noticed that 'damaged' CDs are mistaken for blank CDs, so I added a warning message...

Now this also works as expected in Precise Puppy (pCD, gnomemplayershell). I use the same BASH binary in both precise and tharpup, recently I compiled bash 4.3.30. I think bash 4.1 can handle this script properly.

Anyway... I think all these changes are worth adding to Woof CE. More testing is needed though...

Tahrpup 6 writes something in hd if launched from usb?

#200 Post by vittorio »

Hi, After doing a lot of tests to install nvidia drivers on my notebook with Geforce GT540m (I've tried different drivers and different kernels without success), I've noticed that the problems with nvidiadrivers/xorgwizard are affecting other usb pendrives with other puppy distributions (that were ok and that return ok if setting everything and save a new save file).
It is possible that Turpup writes something (logs or similar) in the hard disc even if I use a pendrive?
In windows is all ok so It is not something "hardware" (I haven't installed new peripherals) even if Windows has reinstalled the touchpad after using Tahrpup with kernel 3.17.4.
How are possible these problems?

Thanks in advance!
