Running Tahrpup 6.0.5 CE on 64 bit computer

#1472 Post by Bird Dog »

I was just wondering if anyone has had success running Tahrpup 6.0.5 CE on a 64 bit computer. In Tahrpup 6.0.5 CE Palemoon has a problem playing twitter video and after reading the Palemoon forum it sounds like this happens in windows also. Its not that big a deal and Palemoon is rock solid except for this but I might try Seamonkey because Firefox crashes too much. One last thing how do you donate money to Phil? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

tahrpup in 64-bits

#1473 Post by minesadorada »

@Bird Dog I have a frugal install of tahrpup running on my 64-bit box.
I replaced palemoon with firefox which has been running fine with no crashes.

I have a problem with the 32-bit libraries, as I can't get Lazarus/fpc to cross-compile to Linux32, but having said that I find tahrpup the best 64-bit Puppy for me. The filesystem looks a bit strange, but I've got used to it. The other niggle is trying to get my dual monitors configured.

Running Tahrpup 6.0.5 CE on 64 bit computer

#1474 Post by Bird Dog »

@ minesadorada. Thanks for your response. So are you saying you have tahrpup 6.0.5 CE or tahrpup64 6.0.5 CE installed on your 64 bit computer? I think its okay to install a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit computer but I was just checking to be sure. Two of my computers are P4 single core so I'm thinking that might be the problem with firefox. When I get my core 2 quad and amd 6 core going I'll give firefox another try and maybe seamonkey also.
I'm not much of a coder so I can't help you with the cross compiling. I only use one monitor at a time but I run lots of computers using the oldest ones to save the newer ones.

Thanks

Bird Dog,

Yes, you can run 32bit Tahrpup on any computer. (X86 or X86-64, AMD32 or 64)
Tahrpup 64bit requires a processor that is 64bit capable. (X86-64, AMD64)
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Running Tahrpup 6.0.5 CE on 64 bit computer

#1476 Post by Bird Dog »

@bigpup Thanks for your reply. I thought this was possible and Ubuntu used to recommend using their 32 bit OS on 64 bit computers until they got the bugs out of their 64 bit OS which they have and are now recommending 64 bit OS on 64 bit computers. I'm going to try Geoffrey's Flash Auto Updater in tahrpup64 6.0.5 on my 64 bit computer because I think they run more efficiently with the 64 bit OS. I just wanted to have some reliable back up in case something goes wrong. Would you know how to donate money to Phil?
PS How did you make out with the hurricane?

Thanks

You will have to ask him or he may post something.
You can PM him and ask

mouse/keyboard configuration

#1478 Post by tlchost »

I have been running TAHR6.05 for a few years with no problems...I have a new desktop and notice that my current save file does not recognize either mouse or keyboard for the new system. However, if I book as a live USB with no save file, TAHR sees both the keyboard and mouse.

My question is - what do I need to do to get tahr to recognize the mouse and keyoard in my save file (I'm will to make the changes running tahr one the old computer and saving them to a new savefile.

I would rather not have to start with square one, as I've added a lot to tahr over the last few years.

I thought save files were like images of your computer. When I would make an image of one of my computers that image would only be good for that computer unless your new computer is the same as your old one.

Thanks

Have you thought to remaster your tahrpup? I wonder also if building an adrv.sfs from your current savefile could solve the problem. Have you tried to run again:

Code: Select all

quicksetup
?

considering that the mouse and keyboard are not recognized on the new system if my savefile is loaded...i can't do either thing you suggested...which is why i asked what files i need to copy from the liveboot that does recognize the mouse and keyboard.

tlchost,

Try this:
Boot not using the save file.
Locate the save file and click on it to open in Rox.
Navigate to etc/X11/xorg.conf
Click on xorg.conf to open it in a text editor.
Find the section "inputDevice"
Should be settings for a keyboard and a mouse.

Now in the running Tahrpup you booted not using the save.
Navigate to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Click on xorg.conf to open it in a text editor.
Find the section "inputDevice"
Should be settings for a keyboard and a mouse.

Compare the two xorg.conf settings and see if there is anything different.
If yes.
Change the ones in the save file xorg.conf, to match the ones in the xorg.conf being used, when booted not using the save.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

up grade palemoon browser

#1483 Post by don922 »

I would like to upgrade the palemoon browser to the: palemoon-26.5.0-p4-glibc219tweak browser
replacing the palemoon-25.8.1 browser.

Is this possible? I don't really know very much about programing. So everything I do is a real challenge.

Any help or suggestions will really make things easier.

EDIT
I have upgraded the palemoon browser using the "Palemoon-updater" in the menu.
Seems to work okay.
EDIT2
I found a download, supplied by watchdog of palemoon-27.0.2-p4-glibc219tweak.pet in the Additional Software (PETs, n' stuff) » Browsers and Internet » palemoon browser I upgraded the browser using this pet and it is working good.

How to disable Palemoon Browser from Tahrpup 6.05.

#1484 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hello, :)
Does anyone know how to disable Palemoon browser from Tahrpup 6.05 64bit?
I've checked the 'no' box for making Palemoon my default browser. But, PM continues to be the browser of choice whenever I use links from incoming emails.
I've checked the 'yes' box for making Seamonkey my default browser. But, no joy there.
Will uninstalling Palemoon negatively impact anything on the OS?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I am not sure about a "Stock Puppy Tahr" at 64bit (of 666philb's version),but I am sure that's in My Version (as a "Puppy Tahr Lite" for PAE of a Modulated version) aren't be hard to replace from Palemoon to Seamonkey.
