Hi, 666philb or other expert.

When I have an SD card (this one is FAT32) in the slot of this Dell laptop E6410, and say pmount

it hangs
So I booted tahr 6.0.6 with pfix=ram,
and got this message:

Quote:
Error: Could not stat device /dev/mmc - No such file or directory.

I don't recall whether this problem occurred with slim slacko, LuPu, or an earlier tahr.

Does the below give any clues?
The card is a microSDHC in an adapter.

(The same 'hang' occurred with an NTFS 4GB card)
Quote:

fdisk -l /dev/mm*

Disk /dev/mmcblk0: 15.9 GB, 15931539456 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 1936 cylinders, total 31116288 sectors

This doesn't look like a partition table
Probably you selected the wrong device.

Subject description: Frozen Mouse

Hi.
I downloaded Tahrpup-6.0.5_PAE.iso , burned it to a CD and booted it, without inter fairing with the boot process until the desktop came up and the mouse froze as well as anything ells. The only option to power down was to press the power button.

My first thought was that something went wrong at download time.

So I downloaded Tahrpup again, burned it to a CD and booted it, without inter fairing with the boot process until the desktop came up again and the mouse froze as well as anything ells. The only option to power down was to press the power button again.

That indicated something might be wrong with the iso file.

Not to give up that easily I started an other reboot but at the “5 sec wait desktop” I keyed in “puppy pfix=ram” and clicking “Enter” the normal boot process proceeded until the normal desktop came up again with a fully functional mouse.

I also noted the difference in the desktop background picture.

While in the frozen version the background was a uniform dark blue/grey the normal functioning version came up as usual, with the two playing pups.

I don't think that this is the way it is meant to be, so it must be a bug somewhere. I hope to have been of any help.
Cheers

sounds like a save file/folder is being found and loaded until you specified pfix=ram....on your drive somewhere?

Hi rockedge
Actually I made sure before booting that there was no save-file to be found.
I wanted a pristine Tahrpup. I redone the hole burning and booting operation twice. Each time with the same result. Funny that. Maybe somebody works it out ? Thanks for your interests.

Subject description: Configure Problem

Hi.
I wanted to install a small application by the name of “ dayplanner ”.
As it turned out it needed a dependency by the name of “ Gtk2-1.24991.tar.gz “.
So I downloaded this file as well and proceeded to install the dependency, doing it in the following steps :

… I fast loaded the devx.sfs folder
… restarted X server
… moving a downloaded copy of Gtk2-1.24991.tar.gz to “my-applications”
… moving the mouse over Gtk2-1.24991.tar.gz than
… right click it – Window – Terminal here - and then type in Terminal window :

tar xvzf Gtk2-1.2991.tar.gz

the extracted file appears as a folder by the name of “ Gtk2-1.24991 “

in order to compile the dependency I do the following :

... I click the folder
... move my mouse over it
... right click it - Window – Terminal here - t hen type in Terminal window :

./configure

as a result this message appears :

bash : ./configure: No such file or directory

Now, can somebody point out to me what I am doing wrong here, please ?
Thank you for your help.

VLC has a setting to disable screen saver, but it is probably already set to do this.
Quote:
Open VLC Media player and go to Tools -> Preferences (Shortcut key is Ctrl P )
Select All from Show settings in the bottom-left corner of the Preferences window .
Now click the Video Tab on the side.
Now tick the Disable Screensaver box and click save.

This is a problem with Xorg. it does not register video playback as a registrable event such as a mouse movement or a keyboard click. So, when you play video in fullscreen mode, even though the video is playing, X.org thinks nothing is happening.

Easy answer:
Turn screen saver off while you use VLC.
Using the menu->Desktop->ScreenSaver Control.
Turn it back on when not using VLC.

A Google search for VLC screen saver disable, gives several hits.
This is from a Google search.
It is suppose to be a work around.

Ok this is how I fixed my screen blanking during movies with VLC:

Create a file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d (I named mine 00-system-dpms.conf) and put the following lines in it and then restart X

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "BlankTime" "0"
Option "StandbyTime" "0"
Option "SuspendTime" "0"
EndSection

This worked for me. Whenever a movie isn't playing it follows your power management settings in 'System Settings'. I haven't tried it with Totem, but I expect it will work there too.

Just tried it and now vlc works as expected. Thanks, you're a genious

Checked the VLC settings and it is turned on but doesn't work. I am doing it manually but I always forget to turn it off/on and it's a pain in the ass. Tried the xorg thing but it didn't work either. Confused

Sorry, I did not think it would be that easy to get VLC to do it automatically.

I wonder if this is the answer?

666philb will have to comment on this.

This is something 666philb may have done to earlier version of Tahrpup.

Not clear if he did this or if it worked.

Hi 666philb I have downloaded, installed and tried to run "dayplanner" unsuccessfully. Even so, it registered on the menu it failed to run. Checking dependencies did not reveal anything. I am sorry . Any suggestions ? Thanks for you help. TIW
