Sub_title: Locking up on boot - Booting the Kernel

I have been using Slacko 5.7.0 PAE, but I cannot find a way to pass audio to a TV using the HDMI (Windows 7 works fine).

The audio works properly with Tahrpup 6.0 CE on a 64 bit computer, but it will lockup about 50% of the time during reboot at 'Booting from kernel'. This requires holding the power button down and doing a boot from scratch. This is occurring on on 2 computers from a bootable usb stick and a full install on 1 of the computers. (The second computer does not have the full install)

The reboot problem is occurring when using windows 7 restart and selecting puppy at the startup menu.

Both computers are dual boot (Windows 7 & either puppy Slacko 5.7 or Tahrpup 6.0 CE full installs.

Any suggestions

Hard to troubleshoot two computers at the same time.
Talk about one specific computer.
Talk about one specific type of install?

Computer specs would help.
What boot loader are you using?
How did you install Puppy to the USB flash drive?

This may not be clearing out the memory completely.

Same problem if you boot Puppy from a cold power off boot-up?

Thanks for the reply.
Tahrpup 6.0 was reinstalled on one computer and that cured it's lockup problem. That worked so good Tahrpup was removed for re-installation on the second computer, but it would not run from either a USB stick or a USB-CD drive.

The downloaded ISO MD5 was rechecked and it is correct. The program was installed on the USB using Rufus v1.4.11.530 and the CD was burnt with Cyberlink Power2Go.

Second computer:
1. HP Pavilion dm1
2. Processor 2x AMD E-450 APU
3. Memory 3737MB

Programs that loaded and ran from USB or CD
1. Puppy Precise 5.7.1 (USB)
2. Gparted (CD)
3. Macrium Reflect (CD) Recover Slacko 5.7.0 image

See attached camera shots taken during booting. (Note 'switch root')

You could try this:
There are two versions of Tahrpup 6.0 CE.
Tahrpup 6.0 CE pae
Tahrpup 6.0 CE nopae

So which ever one you now have try the other one.

I think this could have something to do with the hardware support setup in the Linux kernel. The two versions are slightly different in the kernel setup.

I am going to post a link to this topic in the Tahrpup 6.0 CE bug topic for the developer of Tahrpup 6.0 CE to see.
He needs to know about this and he may have better inside knowledge on what may be causing the problem.
He will help you if he can.

Thanks bigpup
I downloaded the noPAE and checked MD5
Loaded the ISO on a USB stick using Rufus
Boot worked properly and made a full install on the HDD. The noPAE does not have the same problem as the PAE version.

Several reboots from the HDD were made to verify this functioned properly.

The main reason for changing from Slacko 5.7.0 was to get the audio functioning on HDMI. Only needed to select the HDMI card and check IEC958 box.
