Solved _ While the keyboard is soaking

#1 Post by fixit »

I am soaking my keyboard in hot water to try to unstick some keys.

I am using an older computer.

Eye forgot how to tell which Puppy version I have running.

Getting old is hel* . :-)

Soaking your stickies works very well. I assume you did dismember it? The silicon rubber does become very adherent. Window cleaner solution also works - or a very small amount of ammonia - just a few drops - and liquid soap in a bucket of water. Use an old soft paintbrush to stir between the flanges. Remember to wash thoroughly afterwards, then allow to completely dry overnight in a warm place. You can also use a hairdryer set on 'low'. Assuming that is, you have hair!
Growing old... it's too late for me. Where the heck did I put.... uh!

I guess that stickies refers to my keyboard.

IPA does not dissolve plastic.

I used some for the keyboard.

My keyboard has been in front of a fan for around 4 hours.

---------------------------------------------------------

I have hair, but very little.

I have been shaving my head.

A little work, but some benefits.

1. No more haircuts, but I do miss the lady barbers. :-)

2. Only need shampoo for my mustache.

3. Only need comb for my mustache.

Take care. :-)
This is a list of Sheriffs and High Sheriffs of Gloucestershire.

The High Sheriff is the oldest secular office under the Crown (In England and Wales the office previously known as sheriff was retitled high sheriff on 1 April 1974). Formerly the Sheriff was the principal law enforcement officer in the county but over the centuries most of the responsibilities associated with the post have been transferred elsewhere or are now defunct, so that the High Sheriff functions are now largely ceremonial. The High Sheriff changes every March.
I have a question, but someone is beating on the walls.

O.S. shows Kernel Linux 3.14.20, but not the distro.

I recall there was some command line instruction that would show the distro, but can not remember the name.

Tahr Puppy 6.0

Each Puppy version has their own particularities. :-)

Variety is the spice of life is what a former girlfriend told me.

For example, the newest version of VLC no longer lets you hit the right arrow key to quickly advance a movie playback.

I used to get rid of the CPU usage box in the lower right side of the screen.

Doesn't bother me any more.

P_Find is really a CPU hog and I have 4 Gbs of RAM. :-)

I have not been able to find another substitute.

Take care. :-)

Crusty rolls, biscuit crumbs, household fluff and animal hairs can and do contribute to keys sticking. Use a vacuum set on low, invert the keyboard, then apply the hose.

Glad to hear all is well. It was just a matter of waiting, 'While your keyboard gently seeps!'

"updatedb" and "locate" commands (these are companions) do NOT come in every PUP distro. These terminal commands are left out for various reasons, which may have made sense in 2006 but not with today's PCs.

Not sure if I am using locate right

#12 Post by fixit »

#locate -i Toshiba.sh

locate: can not stat () `/usr/var/mlocate/mlocate.db': No such file or directory
[/quote]

Toshiba.sh does exist and this was run from the root directory. ?[

Did you

Code: Select all

updatedb
:?:

If there will be a message like "...not found" then create that directory and repeat command.

Hope that helps

I made the directory.

# updatedb
updatedb: can not find group `mlocate'

What does that message mean ?
