Ok I got confused with your Don't trust my instructions? link and followed that.

Thanks for the details. I followed steps but same problem and error with space. I checked with gdmap and found some files in the new FF are larger (as one should expect) e.g. libxul.so is 50 MB and was 30 MB in FF17.

So I think I should increase savefile. Meanwhile I am testing in the other Slacko.

So how big is this save file?

Are any other browsers installed besides Chromium and FF?

Do you let'm hang on to or limit their caches?

Do you keep copies of these packaged browsers in /home?

I may have a little update trick for ya..

288 M it's not too big I tink, maybe I should just increase personal space.

Only FF 17 and Chromium as sfs

I set the cache on a different dierctory in home

I don't understand the question about copies of packaged browsers in /home. FF17 comes with Slacko and Chrome sfs file is in /home

Thanks

There ain't no /home like /mnt/home. Or you mean home directory a.k.a /root?

Whatever you are discussing here, go ahead.
I just want to throw in that I'd like to change my initial answer to your (still valid?) question "Is it possible to change PPM download directory?" to an unconditional "Yes! Easily."

When I have more time I'll write a HOWTO.

Yeah.. /mnt/home, aware we're talking about a save file configuration.

So 288, hmm.. I wouldn't be happy running Pup as an everyday desktop @ this size. There'd be too many items missing that I've become accustomed to to run without.

The area where these sfs's reside.. what type of file system and how big?

If there's room to go a little bigger, what's your hesitation?

@ a terminal, this'll show us numbers about your setup:

Code: Select all

df -h

So root has 58mb free out of 279. Yeah, can't update FF with those numbers.

How many times in the last year would you say you've had to recover your save file after having done something that didn't go quite the way you planned, and how long would you estimate the process took, keeping in mind you've got EIGHT GIGS FREE?

Ya know, I've got friends that tell me quinoa is a good source of protein. While this is all fine and dandy, it's first and foremost, a carb. The amount I'd have to ingest in order to get my required intake would raise my blood sugar levels through the roof! Think that's smart? No, of course not. It's not practical either.

:D A little something for your OCD to chew on..

How much would you suggest to increase the personal storage file to update Firefox?

Are you on a paleo diet? :)

Let's put it this way, as I hovered over my space icon during this mornings "in place" upgrade, I watched as FF gobbled up 85mbs before asking to be restarted, which promptly led to a failure message stating I didn't have enough space. Really? And your sys folder is sitting there @ an unresolved 168mbs? The update itself appeared no bigger than 3mb, which I'll assume instructs the server to handle any transfers.

Horrible what an invasive, BLOATED sack-a-nuts this beast has become!

I find it easier to dwnld the latest to /tmp, remove the current one in /usr/lib, then extract the new build.

Then again, probably better to avoid FF altogether.

Yes, FF consumes a lot of resources and I notice it as I open too many tabs.
When I was using Windows I used Opera for many years and liked it very much, although there were always problems with sites due to standards or javascript. I need something that works well with Google Docs, also I love some FF plugins Opera did a lot without plugins). Now Opera changed a lot, never tried he newer versions.

What browser are you using?

Since I can't stand the Google boyz, it's Opera >> For surfing in general mind you.

Sites that require JS and Flash, usually where there's a financial transaction taking place, FF gets the call.

Then again, if your habits involve multimedia, Opera's probably not your choice.

No comment on Google Docs cause I don't deal wid'm.

Depending on plugins, you might try IceCat or PaleMoon.

I've had issues with QtWeb, but not SlimBoat.

In fact, when one of my CC sites became incompatible with FF, SB saved my bacon.

The browser a person settles on is almost always dictated by habit.

Multimedia stuff, if something I really wanna view, I try'n dnwld.

Yep, it's a crap shoot alright..
