re-booted into PuppEX - so hard to be sure - but it does seem to be a little faster booting.

(have mislaid my IWC timer)wish)(must get another quality timepiece)

perhaps the verbose mode (very informative) generates the illusion of greater activity = faster?

Still very good, all things considered. More playing to do.

New version

#32 Post by exton »

Yesterday (141209) I have uploaded a new version of PuppEX Tahr. It uses kernel 3.17.6-puppex. Kernel 3.17.6 was released 141207. (So was kernel 3.18, but it cannot be used in Puppy Linux/PuppEX just yet).

To yerc1
Hope it works this time. If not I have to throw in the towel.

A new version of PuppEX Tahr is ready. Most important changes: I've changed kernel from 3.17.6 to 3.18 and installed NVIDIA Graphics driver 340.65. The Nvidia driver will be used if your computer/card is "modern" enough. I've also added Tahrpup's Service Pack 6.0.1 in PuppEX version 141221. (Kernel 3.18.1 can't be used in Puppy/PuppEX just yet).

To yerc1
Please give it another try. This time...

Thanks for testing the new version. It was especially nice to see that the Nvidia driver 340.65 was useful.

Installed on on a Toshiba Tecra M5(2006)

#36 Post by LoboGrande »

Thanks, Exton! I couldn't Tahr 6.0 to recognize my sound card on my ancient laptop but your remastered distro works like a charm! BTW Scabz Chrome 39 .pet worked great in PuppEx and you can watch NetFlix in Linux now if you follow Sylvander's installation instruction.

That's great! In my next version of PuppEX I will include Chrome then. (A lot of people use Netflix).

My best wishes go out to you for the New Year!

Nope. Our touchpad saga lives on...

Just for reference, the latest kernel 3.17.7 for Tahr 6 now allows touchpad navigation on the chromebook. What's missing (or it might just be me unable to find it) is a way to configure the touchpad as snyclient reports no synaptics driver blahblah.

By navigation I mean, I can move the cursor around, select an object, launch a program. However, there seems to be no options for right-click, scrolling, select and drag.

Ok. I must admit that I'm stuck then (and clueless what to do). Nevertheless I will have a look at Tahr 6 kernel 3.17.7 configuration the next time.

@exton:
I have a little request... When do you want a package .txz as a "vmlinuz and zdrv" for a Tahr/Unicorn? [3.14.20] or a make tutorial about a make a kernel? (even with a RC/Beta)

Wont save after update to 6.0.1

#43 Post by randye009 »

I am loving this distro! Have a couple of issues though. After updating to 6.0.1 my pupsave will no longer save- it just sits at saving to pupfile and eventually goes to blackscreen. I went back to 6.0 and everything is back in order. Any idea on a fix for 6.0.1? Also, is there any way to stop the system from performing a disk check at boot?

I'm running an ASUS G50VT.

I am enjoying this distro more than any puppy I have used. No more VBOX for Netflix!

Thanks Exton!

Randy

Your kernel uses a 300HZ timer frequency. I would be glad if I could use another/same kernel with 1000HZ tick for use with the MusE MIDI/Audio sequencer with needs a tick-rate of at least 500HZ.

@stemsee
could I use one of your 1000HZ kernels?

Any hints highly appreciated.

If I myself had to build a kernel with 1000HZ tick please hint me at a suitable kernel source.

All kernel-sources are downloadable via quickpet. Sorry, did not expect that.
