Central Puppy Repository

#1 Post by Evil20071 »

I just installed a new 120GB HDD in my web server and set up an FTP account for all us Puppians.. I"m now working on making a link on my website that will open that folder for HTML viewing without having to have the FTP name and password.
As I have time off, I will be attempting to find and copy all of the current puppy repositories into this drive so that we can finally have a centralized repository. I will be making a separate FTP account that will be upload-only to a folder specifically for all of our members to post their packages to, which we can then sort out as we are able to do so. I'm going to first work on building the repository, starting with all files/folders from our Ibiblio repository.
I'll keep you posted on here.

Ok. So, it's posted. Filezilla is transferring all the puppylinux directory from ibiblio to the following link:

Puppy Linux

It's a queue of 11580 files, so it'll take a while to transfer them all. Feel free to watch. :D

Also, if anyone knows of any other repos for some of our stuff, please let me know where, and if possible, who runs it? I'd love to get those repository admins together on this one. :D

Ok. so, still transferring files. Currently, there are 5280 files available with 14248 files currently in Queue for transfer from Ibiblio. I am trying to get all the pupplet files that are on Ibiblio. Slow going due to Ibiblio's FTP speed restrictions.

I have created a folder for packages to be uploaded by those of us here on the forum who get into making .pets, along with a username that will allow you to log into the repository FTP to drop files into the "User Uploads" folder. when you log in, this folder, and it's sub-folders, are the only ones you will see. Here are the details:

Code: Select all

Server Hostname: totalelectronics.us
Server Port: 21
Username: puppyuser
Password: [Your Email]
Limitations are in place for this, as well. I will be posting a disk space monitor for this drive shortly.Should we happen to fill it up, I may well have to buy a bigger drive. I know that there are around 1.3TB of files I've found, and this is only a 111 Gb drive, so we will more than likely fill it up and quickly. At that point, I'll come up with another system to use. Meanwhile, I have the following requests:
  1. Please do not attempt to use the puppyuser ftp account as your own personal file swap. You cannot delete files that are posted from that account. I do keep logs, and I will block you. This is simply for the well being of the community as a whole.
  2. If you are posting an updated package and would like to replace the one currently in the repository, please upload a .txt file with this request along with the package. This will help us cut down on space as well as ensure we have the most current packages available. I will try to keep a backup of all old packages just in case someone needs/wants them.
  3. When posting packages, please either include a .txt with the puppy version (ex. Slacko 5.7.1), or attach the puppy version in the name (ex. firefox_33_slacko_5_7_1.pet) so that I know where to put it. This will help me sort things out quickly and effectively.
  4. Please understand that I have, at the time of this writing, a 3 month old son, 40+ hour/week job and the usual day to day adult responsibilities that we all have, and I may not be able to sort through files every day, but that I will sort through them, and if a time comes where I cannot do so, I will be more than happy to ask someone else in the community to volunteer to do so, and will provide them with all the tools they would need to take on the task.
Thanks in advance.

So you mean unofficial or official repos?

For unofficial off the top of my head I can think of:

http://puppylinuxstuff.meownplanet.net run by russoodle
http://smokey01.com run by smokey01

I know Pup's are known for their small size, but will all of Puppy's repos actually fit in only 120GB? Or are you only storing official Pups like Lupu, Slacko, and Tahr?

Either way, good luck mate and a belated welcome back :)

I also have a 1TB external connected if I need to move the files. However, for the ibiblio files, I have 111 Gb usable. That leaves apt 2Gb growing room give or take. I am trying to do all of them, though. Even puppyrus is there. ;-)

Any time you have a Puppy upload, feel free.

Not sure. I get the following:

Code: Select all

Status:	Resolving address of totalelectronics.us
Status:	Connecting to 108.248.196.72:21...
Status:	Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Response:	220-TotalElectronics FTP Server.
Response:	220 Unauthorized access prohibited
Command:	USER puppyuser
Response:	331 Password required for puppyuser
Command:	PASS *******************
Response:	230 Logged on
Status:	Connected
Status:	Retrieving directory listing...
Command:	PWD
Response:	257 "/" is current directory.
Command:	TYPE I
Response:	200 Type set to I
Command:	PASV
Response:	227 Entering Passive Mode (108,248,196,72,242,175)
Command:	MLSD
Response:	150 Opening data channel for directory listing of "/"
Response:	226 Successfully transferred "/"
Status:	Directory listing successful
Also, it's your email address for your password. This is for tracking purposes. It will take you to a blank folder on the server where you can upload files/folders for your projects. I'll check my logs on it and see if I can find out what the issue is.

I don't use SSL or TLS on my server. Try changing the connection setting to just use FTP not SFTP and you should be ok.

Are you manually creating the folders, or just doing a FTP transfer of them and their contents?

Hmm...

Code: Select all

(000230)12/7/2014 17:53:31 PM - puppyuser (xx.xx.xxx.xxx)> PASV
(000230)12/7/2014 17:53:31 PM - puppyuser (xx.xx.xxx.xxx)> 227 Entering Passive Mode (108,248,196,72,243,0)
(000230)12/7/2014 17:53:31 PM - puppyuser (xx.xx.xxx.xxx)> STOR Porgy64-TeX-EmotMascote.xcf
(000230)12/7/2014 17:53:42 PM - puppyuser (xx.xx.xxx.xxx)> 425 Can't open data connection for transfer of "/Porgy64/sources/project/loseless/Porgy64-TeX-EmotMascote.xcf"
That's odd... Not sure what's causing the issue, but that's the error I see. Can't open data connection. Give me a minute to look through some things here and I'll see if I can figure it out.
