Say i am trying to update gaim to it's newest version, how would I go about doing this?

Why ?
The supplied gaim works with msn..unless things have changed in the last day or two....
The "lastest and greatest" isn't always the best in all circumstances.....Get to know how to use linux on a base level first before changing things...

flame, to answer your question directly:
If you want the latest version and it's not a PupGet or DotPup already, you will have to compile it yourself from sources (in another distro like Vector) and install it manually into your puppy.
You could additionally create a DotPup for other to follow your steps.
