Have you read How to Install your Printer in Puppy at the top of this section? It has a link to a thread specifically for Canon printers.

Hello RCRSN51, thank you for your offer of help, most kind of you.
i will look at this problem soon , and let you know how i get on.

at the moment ,if i write a letter to post (snail mail ) i transfer to a memory chip and put this in the tablet, and print from that.

Thank you. Michael.

Hi Rcrsn51, thank you again.. i had a quick look, but C.U.PS only ask me if i am using S.C.S.I, P.D.F, or L.P.T#1... but this printer is U.S.B.
or Wifi. only.... I can move the printer to the room i am in and then try U.S.B. if you think this will work, but Wifi is better if i can get the wifi unit to talk to the printer. you expert thoughts are most welcome.
Is this two problems one for the wifi the other for the canon driver.

I will have time over the holiday to look at this.

Michael.

If you temporarily connect the printer by USB, you can confirm that you have the correct driver.

If you have done the candi procedure correctly, CUPS should detect the WiFi connected Canon printer.

Do you have a firewall installed on the Puppy machine? It may block access to networked printers.

When i first tried the U.S.B. i told cups it was a MG3100 ... 3150 was not on the list. I wrote in Abby word this is a test. when i tried to print
it started, and a blank page came out. so i tried to turn off the fire wall but cannot find out how to do this. Now when i try to print, i can wake up the printer light, but nothing else happens.. i looked at the canon site, they only know MG3160, but i do not understand which one to select.

It sounds like you tried to use the built-in Canon Pixma MG3100 Gutenprint driver and it failed.

So you need to go to a Canon website and get the genuine driver. If you select MG3160, you will get a package called MG3100 series IJ Printer Driver Ver. 3.60 for Linux (debian Packagearchive).

Follow my instructions for installing it using the candi tool.

Hi. RCRSN51. As the holiday and my eighty first birthday has been and gone, i am trying to get the printer to work...

I can go to print a test page, but you hear the click as if it is printed
each line, but blank page exits. maybe i have invisible ink ???.
i did download candi and unpacked it.
what have i misunderstood.

1. Are you connected by USB?

2. Run the CUPS wizard. Click the Printers tab.

3. Select your Canon printer.

4. On the Driver line, what does it say?

You are still using the built-in Gutenprint driver. If you read back through this thread, I have recommended that you download the official Canon driver and install it.

There are instructions here. Have you done any of this yet?

I down loaded the Canon drivers. but when i type in a consul
candi cnijfilter-common_3.30-1_i386.deb it tells me no such file.

this also happens when i type http://localhost:631.

i get to Cups by using the menu entry.

You must go into the folder where the files are. Then open a terminal window by pressing the back-tick key ` . It is usually above the Tab key on your keyboard.

canon MG3100 series version. 3.60 (color, 2sided printing )...
but when i go to "maintenance" and select print test page, nothing happens with the printer, on the screen it said no job.

Your printer can be used as a copier, separate from the computer.

Does it work that way?

Yes the MG 3150 has a button on the panel that said "scan",
i have used this, so i know that will work with out the computer.
also with the tablet i can print and copy (scan).

Thank you for your help thus far...Michael.

Forgot to say yesterday, i tested the printer with the tablet, but had to unplug the USB, so that the tablet WIFI would work. if i did not do this it said network fault.
