You must go into the folder where the files are. Then open a terminal window by pressing the back-tick key ` . It is usually above the Tab key on your keyboard.

Thank you for the info about the back tick, it worked.
now when i go to cups the drive line said:-

canon MG3100 series version. 3.60 (color, 2sided printing )...
but when i go to "maintenance" and select print test page, nothing happens with the printer, on the screen it said no job.

Your printer can be used as a copier, separate from the computer.

Does it work that way?

Yes the MG 3150 has a button on the panel that said "scan",
i have used this, so i know that will work with out the computer.
also with the tablet i can print and copy (scan).

Thank you for your help thus far...Michael.

I'm confused. Was your most recent test with Puppy on USB or WiFi?

When you used the candi method, did you install both .deb files?

It's strange that both the Gutenprint and Canon drivers have failed. My only other suggestion is to do a temporary clean install of Puppy, use USB and try the Gutenprint driver again.

i used the usb, as you suggested, i only unplug it to use the tablet.
the USB would appear that it is first option. the blue light on the printer, shows the WIFI is connected all the time as this comes from the ADSL modem.

I only installed MG3100 series-3.60-1 deb.
what other one should i install ???

i will down load a new 5.7.1 tomorrow morning as it is very slow now.

19-12-00 hrs in the U.K.

When you download the Canon driver package, you should find two i386.deb files - cnijfilter-common and cnijfilter-mg3100. You need to install both with candi.

I don't know. It would take you one minute to find out. Make sure that you install BOTH i386.deb files.

[Edit] Is Quirky 64-bit?

Rcrsn51...
I downloaded a new copy of 6.2.1.91, i did not install candi.
First i tried the test page as i had done before, this worked, so i used softmaker to write a test page, this works.. also the editor works.

i use the 32 bit version of 6.2.1.91, there is a 64 bit version...

i will download candi and see if it works, also i have not tried colour printing. this with USB install . next will be the scanner. i would find it very useful to be able to get the WIFI to work, so i can move the printer from next to the desk.

i have no doubt with 5.7.1 and your candi, it would work, but it is my lack of knowledge that stops me from getting it to work.
This is with CUPS 1.7.1... i did see that there is a version 2.0.0

thank you for your help. i will let you know how i get on

Michael.

Rcrsn51. Pleased to say the colour works O.K.
I have tried both scan software in Quirky 6.2.1.9.1...... both "see" the printer. but the words (unknown) is after the words MG3150, therefore
it will not scan....i find i do not need candi to print with 6.2.19.1

Once again thanks for your help...Michael.

According to the SANE scanner system, your MG3150 is supported by their v1.0.24. I don't know what version is in your Quirky.

If it is an earlier version, you will need the official Canon driver and candi.

Pleased to say i can now scan and print the image..i did not enter
all of the file address..

The version of Xsane is .997
i did download the canon scan driver.

Have you any thoughts on how to WIFI connect the desktop to the printer. The printer is able to work by WIFI with the Tablet. and the
desktop can Wifi connect to the ADSL modem.
