Hi Barry,

I created a new thread for version 6.92, to keep bugs separate for each version, if you dont mind.

Ok I would like to know how you have rox installed because it seems not "standard" ? For example :
/root/Choices/MIME-types/ should be instead in /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/MIME-types
/root/Choices/Templates/ should be /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/Templates
etc

# planner

question : why not create /var folder, instead of making a link inside /tmp ?
/var should be separate from /tmp no ?
-------------------
pidgin
missing desktop icon and also not always connect to irc chat ?

That is actually a false alarm.

All plugins are linked statically with the main executable.

April64 6.92 test on Touch laptop

#11 Post by gcmartin »

Thanks @BarryK. The latest versions booted straight to FirstRUN on my desktop on my 6 year old HP Touch Laptop. The base items that appeared in 32bit Quirky seem to provide matching operations in this 64bit version (April). Very nice, indeed.
Image

I am running on a 2GB USB stick formatted to ext4 by your "drive" utility.
Image

One problem that surfaced is that the LAN adapters (ethernet and WiFi) on motherboard were NOT activated (eth0) or discovered (wlan0 not present). A report of RAM and system is attached, here.

Issues that you may want to comment on or address (as these are address in most of the other 64bit distro which existed prior to April64)
  • Touch, on the desktop screen or windows, do not work
  • No ability to share content created or captured on this system with LAN neighbors.
  • 01Micko made a SAMBA V4 especially for you earlier, I believe. His version does make it friendly and simple for users to not just get started, but to also understand. To date, most every 64bit PUP version in Puppyland has some version of full SAMBA built-in, OOTB.
  • @Mavrothal with help from @Zigbert and others has perfected modernization of PPM with testing.
  • @Ted Dog, also with help, has a model perfected for your intended upcoming ISO where it would boot the ISO on both UEFI as well as BIOS PCs
  • @StemSee along with @Gyro has upgraded the Remastering utility to make it more frieindly to reduce navigation errors that users make; without typical hybreeding
Hope you can make these simple to get, via your REPO or should you build a next version of this package.

Edit1: After reboot, touching the touchscreen I do get a mouse. But, it tracks too far to the right and away from the finger to be useful. 01Micko posted steps and I followed those with his Slacko64, which corrected the finger tracking issue. I'll need to look that up.

April died on its own, today.

#12 Post by gcmartin »

April left running overnight on laptop. Today, upon returning, I found that ALL partition icons on the desktop (bottom screen above taskbar) has turned to triangles and so has the File icon (at upper left corner).

I attempted to use the taskbar's Menu, but nothing works.

I cntrl-alt-backspace which took me to a Black screen with no cursor and no physical way to reach system via keyboard.

Powered off April's laptop!

Quirky April64 6.92

why arent /usr/local/lib/X11/ folders inside /usr/share/ instead ?
For example /usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons should be : /usr/share/mini-icons
It seems puppy is the only distro with those folders. Has it to do with the way jwm or X are compiled ?
------------------------
other question :
why is there a /root/.icewm when icewm is not used ?

I reported that in the Woof-CE git thread a long time ago: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 449#737449 and I think, it's been removed from Woof-CE, although they didn't bother to acknowledge my modest contribution. If you don't write code, you are not allowed to contribute :(

yes, there are many errors like that in puppy, but I wont list them all here, it's too much work for Barry, so I list them only one per one...

I listed many of them in the past, they don't get corrected very fast ..for example.

etc etc

I also have problems with etc groups and passwd and rc.shutdown and /dev/tty ...etc etc

hi Barry, I think it's best you create a topic for each version 6.89 6.92 6.94 and also for each cpu x86_64 and i686 ?..otherwise we are a little lost. (well me at least) cheers...

BarryK seemingly asking for a single thread, his "Intro" 1

#17 Post by gcmartin »

Not speaking for BarryK, as I feel comfortable posting to a thread specific to the distro I provide feedback, BUT, BarryK asks, here, that he feels that thread is best for all April discussions. He shares that the Aprils (current versions) are, now, so closely related that they are virtually identical.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't @StemSee perfect a boot method where his single distro would boot into a 64bit mode on the PC or it would boot into 32bit mode, selectively at boot time of EmSee?

Hope @BarryK can mimic his new April to allow selective personality, as well.

In fact, this may be just where @BarryK intends to take us.
