Hi...

Welcome to the forum :)

I'm not sure if Puppy has the open source driver for this card or not, which I'm guessing would be the "xf86-video-r128 driver." I would think so. Image What version of Puppy are you running? Also, if you would, can you open a terminal (install "sakura" from the Puppy Package Manager to make this easier,) and post the readouts from these commands? Please omit nothing from the commands or the readouts...

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk

Code: Select all

lsmod
For Puppy, I think the correct version of AMD's proprietary fglrx driver, if there is one, would be way too old, requiring a much older kernel. :(

Hi...

You're welcome, glad to help. :)

Yes, some things in Linux are very different from Windows, one being the frequent use of the terminal or "command" line." In Windows XP and above, this program is called "CMD," short for "Command." In Windows 9x and possibly ME, this would be the DOS prompt. Gaining a working knowledge of how to use the terminal will be very important for you in learning how to use Linux.

You've mentioned that your using Tahr, to help me give you better instructions, let me boot into that and I will be back in a bit...

EDIT: I need to do some things that just came up so it will be a while...

Regards...

Ok, I'm back with Tahr loaded. :)

Please download (and install) Sakura here. Once installed, it will be located in "Menu"--->"Utility." Please run it and copy and paste the commands I've listed above (and then hit "Enter") and do the same when you post the results.

Thanks!

Hi and you're welcome :)

Odd, I'm not seeing the driver listed for your card. Yet, when I type in "xserver-xorg-video-r128" in the Puppy Package Manager, the driver shows up as installed. So, if you would, please open Sakura again and post the output of...

Code: Select all

glxinfo | grep -i vendor
Also, please open the Puppy Package Manager and update enter "xserver-xorg-video-r128" in the search box and click "Go," Does the entry for Trusty have a green checkmark next to it?

Regards...
