Thank you for the Menu Link....Works fine and with many more selections .... It even took my couple icons and included them in its list. I since deleted them....Smiles...
On the buggerhand, sometimes the Wine Menu Bar sticks to the desktop and the only way I can rid it is to Kill it...by selecting the left X and then Kill. Also the 'Wine Iexplore' does not seem to respond well. I clicked on it and Wine Internet Explorer opens and :

Not like I need the browser in Wine....But It sort of remind me of the "File -> Create Directory" that returns "Not Yet Developed". Because they are there lead you to want to try them ....

IIRC, both the wine-1.6.2.pet and the wine-portable-1.6.2-2-p4.tar.gz were the work of version2013. I can't think of any reason why he would have changed a "winning procedure", except as perhaps necessary to modify it to make it portable. Registration --see below-- automatically creates the following menu listings:
On System, Wine Windows Program Loader. This will load any program you installed to wine's false C:Drive.
On Utility, Wine clock, config, console, and control panel.
On Fun, wine mine.
"Installation" of the portable is straight forward and only take a couple of minutes primarily because it has to download wine.
Installation:
1. Download a portable wine tgz.
2. Left-Click it. Answer the dialog. It will download wine and create a folder. You can move the folder anywhere.
3. Right-click the folder, Select Register Wine portable on Menu.
Although I used wine-portable-1.6.2-2-p4, that was primarily because it included Winetricks, while the other versions available at the time of my download didn't. Since then, shinobar has provided on his thread a newer version, Wine_MyPortable_1.7.27.tar.gz by Akkie2, a member of the Japanese Team. It apparently includes winetricks as well as Claunch, GPad and some other applications pre-installed. Personally I prefer Firefox and use it 99% of the time while I am hacking on my Windows 7 machine. But again there are those websites that only accept Microsoft's Internet Explorer...

The initial record resulting from the search of my databases was "Wine is fine, but liquor is quicker." Pursuing this line of research did not reveal anything pertinent to your inquiry.
Perhaps more probative was the advice that a little wine may make your happy, while a lot can be deleterious to your health.
Except when I attempted to run Dragon Naturally Speaking [some posts on the Wine Forum suggested IE was necessary to register DNS, which turned out not to be true] I've never used it. And while some security experts may know better, my thinking is that using Internet Explorer may result in some exposure to windows malware, My reasoning:
A: "Wine doesn't support most Windows security constructs, and instead relies on the underlying operating system for security. Unless you run Wine as root, for instance, it's hard for malicious software in Wine to modify files belonging to other users. But Wine doesn't protect you against malware you run yourself.

I think internet Explorer is now at 11. Upgrades have been in part to keep up with competitors, make things pretty, but mostly to patch discovered security holes.
That said, and trying to recall what I did to get IE running when, as mentioned above, I thought I needed it, try either of the following or both in this order:
Configure wine -- I've a vague recollection that configuring wine on one occasion resulted int IE being downloaded. But my memory may be playing tricks.
Open a terminal and type the following command:
If installed version of wine:
wine winetricks ie8
if using portable wine:
wine.sh winetricks ie8
It should dlownload and install Wine's version of Ie8. 6 and 7 are also available.

Deeply buried in my memory banks is a note that sometimes wine's gecko did not install. I know it's needed for wine's versions of firefox/opera. Maybe its also needed for wine's ie.
Try typing in a terminal:
wine(,sh) winetricks list-all
and decide on which of the 3 versions of gecko you want. It should also show if any are already installed.
Try installing it along with Ie. you can do both with one command:
wine(,sh) winetricks gecko ie8.
Edit: After parking my CPU at idle awhile [an airport servicing NYC*
], I wondered if winetricks had some for removing stuff. Googling indicated it doesn't. But, the following link was generated regarding how to remove IE from the Registry. http://engineering.zowers.net/2008/12/h ... -6-on.html. As Puppy runs as root, you can probably edit wine's registry in any text editor. Geany has search capabilities for quickly locating text. Combined with deleting the IE folder in wine Drive_C, and any IE.desktop, that should completely get rid of IE.
Of course, making guesses about what to delete form the Registry can also get rid of the utility of other programs.
