Laptop Power Management

I need a robust power management tool for running Puppy Tahr 6.02 on a laptop. I downloaded Laptop Tools off the package manager but it fails to run...I don't know why...so I can't test it.

There is this discussion I found but I really need something that lets me modify setting on the fly like the Windoz power management does.

Any suggestions?
