Hi people,
i want to open a thread concerned with varous problems / solutions of streming media. Many of us have questions here I suppose.
I personally like acidjazz. Internet radio is one of the rare opportunities to listen to this style.
But when I try the MRL (in Gxine):
"http://www.wefunkradio/play/shoutcast.pls" it says: No input plugin found.
It turned out that this script offered three choices (http://129.173.67.99:8000/ ,http://205.188.215.229:8018/, http://207.200.96.232:8018/) .
Pasting one of them works.
I also ask myself if songbird would be a choice for puppy.. or if it is to big.
An other idea is to build a database of media-formats and corresponfing codecs such as to avoid downloading big codec-packs. Instead i find it useful to install/download only the ones I really need. I.e. *.ram does not play but I don't want to install the whole realplayer-pachage. The database could list possible codecs for this container-format aswell as hints on how to find the encoding. ('Gspot' on windows does a good job in this respect).
What do you think ?
Greetings,

Playing streaming media in Puppy
I went to shoutcast and selected the acidjazz list.
I got four entries.
On one link I did 'copy link location' (rightclick)
I pasted the link in gxzine (open|MRL) and the station plays.
You can then add this link in the Media marks.

xine
Your running libxine-1.0 and the newest is 1.1.2, so it's a little dated. I just run the standard pupget xine_extra_codecs-1, so your problem, may also be in the age of the xine. With the newer xine, Streams that wouldn't open, open. My puppy opens wefunk, no problem. You might think about MU's newer mplayer.pup, no compling.

try streamtuner, and enter mplayer (link above) as player in the options.

optional install this to record music:

Try the big codecpack for mplayer, too, this is especially helpfull with radiostations:

Thanks for the answers, but - as I wrote in the first post - I have no problem getting it to work - only thing is:
some playlists need handediting. My workaround is to use the firefox plugin: 'mediaplayer connectivity'.
Gxine works fine for me so I dont need an additional player.
The other thing is: I'm dissatisfied by the codec situation. Obviously people here prefer to download big codec packs, because figuring out which codecs they really need requires some work.
This was not a 'call for help' , my fault I did't make this clear. And yes, I can play all the radio stations I want (except for one ram format, I will have a look at the big codec pack..thx MU).
Finally if nobody else has problems or questions playing streams this is good news - for Puppy!
