Searching tips to improve Windows performance, found this:
Restart regularly

This tip is simple. Restart your PC at least once a week, especially if you use it a lot. Restarting a PC is a good way to clear out its memory and ensure that any errant processes and services that started running get shut down.

Even better, if you don't turn windows on at all, you won't have any problems.
I seem to remember there was an earlier version which turned itself off after so many hours use.

Am I the only person who doesn't leave their computer on 24/7?

I only use my computer a few hours a day, and it's off when not in use. Kinda like turning off the lights when you leave the room, no?

I turn my computer on, once a day, and off, once a day; that is, when I use the computer, because there's a lot of other stuff for me to do.

I have read pros and cons about the effect on hardware as to shutting down and restarting vs on all the time.
Some say that shutting down and restarting is harder on the hardware.

But I shut my computer down when I am not using it and sometimes as a result, the scheduled events Windows wants to do in the early hours of the morning do not take place.

In my W98-2 days Off at night on in AM. Even better, DC from hardwired internet when not in use. Now with Puppy, 30 minutes of non-use is Off. A reminder to DC from the internet beforehand. Save-file creep if on-line even if journaled.
