XFCE4 No Icons, No Wallpaper and No Right Click

#1 Post by steve_s »

The save file got to small, it didn't save last session right, now I don't have icons, no wallpaper and no right click, just gray screen.

I got a panel and panel menu, I can run terminal from there and run stuff from terminal. Posting from it now.

Carolina Vanguard version, frugal on a flash drive.

I have increased the save file size I just need to get my desktop back.

Broke the window manager? Any ideas on how to get it back? :?

I ran

Code: Select all

xfdesktop
and I get

Code: Select all

(xfdesktop:24153): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_get_path: assertion `G_IS_FILE (file)' failed

(xfdesktop:24153): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_get_path: assertion `G_IS_FILE (file)' failed

(xfdesktop:24153): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_file_get_path: assertion `G_IS_FILE (file)' failed
Segmentation fault
Does that tell me something?

I could reinstall xfdesktop but I'm scared to.

Advise?

You have a corrupt savefile.

Boot pfix=ram, mount your busted save, copy over what you need/want to keep, unmount and delete. Then make a new savefile.

Yeah, you're right...was hoping I could just fix it. But that seems like the easiest way out. Ok, thx.

What version of xfce, I did have a problem in carolina xfce 4.10 that if you made a launcher on the desktop without giving it an icon I got as you have described.

Ah Vanguard that has 4.10 so that sounds like the problem, update to xfce 4.12 http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 984#841984
