Hi,
I seem to be having a problem with Simple Network Setup saving connecting with saved network information from previous boot. I have to delete and reconnect with password.
Also, it seems that defaultchanger is not identifying installed items. For example, I don't see LibreWriter as an option to put in default box.

Quirky Xerus 8.0 final is out!
Announcement, links, etc. here:
http://barryk.org/news/?viewDetailed=00344
One thing I didn't get quite right is booting the ISO on my Asus E200HA baby laptop, yeah it boots OK with the UEFI-firmware, however at bootup it displays:
Scanning: mmcblk0p1 zram sda1
I had recompiled the kernel with support for MMC memory builtin, before it was modules. This is because my Asus has internal eMMC Flash memory.
Having booted from an ISO, a session can be saved, but then the scan must find it at next bootup.
There are actually mmcblkop1, 2, 3 and 4.
Don't know why they weren't found, maybe a little "sleep" is required in the 'init' script in the initrd.

Successful frugal install to sdb1, everything appears to be working correctly on boot.
Did notice that the window for the grub stanza was incorrect.Correct is (hd0,1) while the supplied was (hd19,0).
Don't think that would boot.....

I have never tried ISObooter, so you will have to try Quirky ISO with it and report back.Sylvander wrote:Will xerus64-8.0.iso boot using ISObooter?
I have 1.88GiB free space available on my ISObooter sdb1 FAT32 partition on a Sandisk Cruzer Edge 8GB Flash Drive.
I found this forum thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=67235
If you have any old Flash stick, of 512MB or greater, you can just 'dd' the iso to it, and it will boot. My install page explains:

Sorry, I can't support x86 32-bit anymore, I just don't have the time.Sage wrote:Quirky Xerus 7.90 (8.0beta)
Not wishing to appear greedy nor churlish, but a 'final' which fits on a CD-RW would still be invaluable in 32bit format for working with land-fill rescued machines. Perhaps one of the gurus circling the fold could take on the task?
Otherwise, working well on older 754 & 939 machines, except with VX5450/512 HDMI card, yes, even with v.11 FP/BBC. Default video setting 1600x??? bit too high for older HW and older users...
Not able to release UEFI kit for testing at present.
The same story for ARM.
My intended future direction is to support 64-bit x86 touch-screen tablets and 2-in-1 laptops. There is too much going on in my life to have a wider scope.

In the Booting section, a small typo...
Should be
Code: Select all
turn OFF "Secure Boot"
Code: Select all
The main thing that you have to do it turn of "Secure Boot" to be able to bootup an external operating system, as explained here:

I did another install to the same HP desktop but this time I used the
alternative method, there is a huge difference in the memory usage.

Fair comment - glad of all offerings. Just floating the request in case one of the resident gurus feels moved.Sorry, I can't support x86 32-bit anymore, I just don't have the time.
The same story for ARM.
If you were able to provide a version capable of replacing Android on smart mobiles and tablets that would be a massive contribution. A complete how-to would be required, though. Google seems to under something of a cloud(!) recently due to the exclusivity deals they've been forging. They also have a reputation for storing everyone's personal info.

efi files or folders?
Hi Barry,
please assist;
the 4install script to sdc usb started ok,
then stopped here as copy/pasted:
Creating 512MB FAT-32 first partition...
Sorry, syslinux version 6.x is required. Or at least these folders from 6.x:
/usr/lib/syslinux/efi64
/usr/lib/syslinux/efi32
Am using host Win7 64-bit laptop, with usb host linux Quirky 6.1.4
Are these above items required as extras and from where
do I get them?
Where have I gone wrong?
Thanks, regards.

".deb" packages can be easily installed with a simple click.
1.
It began booting OK, but gave Error 15: File not found.
ISObooter is normally the easiest/safest method I can think to use to try various Puppies booting from a Flash Drive.
Using dd previously was really easy, but it lost me all of the content on 1 of my external HDD's [including about 99% of (the PC copies of) my family photographs...still have the paper originals].
Because...I made a silly simple error, by writing the image to the wrong drive.
recovered the photos using "Photorec", but lost all the info by losing the filenames and folder hierarchy that described where/when/who.
2.
I undid all done to try xerus64-8.0.iso with ISObooter.
Now back to:
