Stupid question

If I have 3GB RAM, do I really need a swap partition? Currently I do not have one, would it be better if I did?
I am sure this is a REALLY stupid question, but i am rather new to Linux really, but I like it a LOT.

Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your system

I had an issue not too long ago that caused me to have to reformat and re-install. I do not think that the drivers I included will help for any kind of card except a PCI express graphics card, and that is what I think your issue is, the drivers not being the correct ones for that card. I will keep a...

Could you give some specs on your video card?
I could also use the information about the error, was it a crash, some messages?
I will try to help if I can.

 Looks like I forgot that. Thanks for telling me, let me upload it real quick. http://www.2shared.com/file/6819890/3bd204bb/gmdls.html There, sorry about forgetting that. And BTW, are you running dxdiag.exe when it's in a virtual desktop made by wine? When I run it out in the open, it crashes ...

Crap.....
It's my Nvidia drivers.
I tried to install xfce, but I didn't do it right, and I ruined my OS, so I am now in the process of re-installing everything.
well, until I learn more, I am stuck with JWM.

Broken IceWM

Ok, it seems I can get a lot of things working in puppy, but this one stumped me. I normally run with JWM, and I wanted to test out IceWM because it looks so much cooler, but I click on restart with IceWM, and POOF, my task bar is my cursor repeating backwards along the line, the menu is all scrambl...

Gaming on Puppy Linux

EDIT: I forgot to mention, don't do this if you have an ATI card without finding the drivers for it first! And, if you have an Nvidia card, install the Nvidia drivers I included first, and reboot. Hello, I am going to try and help the people who can't figure out how to get games like Half life 2, Te...

Ok, mine most likely won't win any awards, and it's probably huge compared to most people's screens (1920x1200).

Yes, I might do that.
I think I should make a tutorial on getting games working on puppy actually, but I am rather new to this forum and don't know what section to put it, otherwise I would have already
But once I do that, I will link that around.

Drivers for Nvidia 9 series found

After searching for a few days, I finally found drivers for my Nvidia 9400 GT that work. Most people probably have already found this, but in case you haven't, here: http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/NOP/NVIDIA-185.18.14-k2.6.25.16.pet and the MD5: http://puppylinux.ca/tpp/NOP/NVIDIA-185.18.14-k2.6.25.16_md5...

Thanks, forgot about booting off CD. I really wish there were more information on Linux, and Wine, but I guess Linux is the least popular operating system, most people are just too arrogant to even try something that's free. they think "If it's free, it's crap." which is really sad in my o...

Thanks for the links, I will see what I can do with them. My goal is to be able to play Left 4 Dead with my friends on Linux, so that I at least have one cool multi-player game on my Linux. L4D is based off of Valve's Half-Life 2, which I have seen people get working in wine. I'm not sure how well I...

Nvidia 9 series drivers for Wine in Puppy 4.2? [FOUND!]

Hello I am trying to get my machine to have the ability to run games on both operating systems I am using. I really like Puppy Linux, it's my favorite distribution I have found so far, and I am getting annoyed with windows. I am also a gamer, so I have been trying to get my games to work on Puppy Li...
