It's a frugal install (looking for save files) and certainly the slacko 6.3, but obviously this is a rather localized problem and probably because I did something stupid. I will start with a re install and then look for the problem - The switch to grub4dos threw me (the menu.lst is where? On the dos...

Slacko 6.3 kernel panic
This machine is a bit of a mess at the moment - I was running a previous puppy (5.7.??) for 3 years, and another puppy before that, so the big disc on this thing has too many save files and my grub menulist really needs a contents page. I also seem to have "checking for puppy files..." run...

diagnostics - could be better
Hi all, I realise this is a bit late but I have just hit a problem that caused me to find this thread. I have been using frisbee successfully for a while now but all of a sudden it won't connect, and it gives no information as to why. Indeed I do not get a list of wireless networks to connect to and...

suspend.script ?
Hi all, I had a suspend script (puppy 3) working on my Vaio, but this toshiba suspends and wakes up straight away. I read somewhere that it is a problem with the usb driver, but nobody else seems to have this problem with puppy. When one searches for "suspend script" or "suspend to me...

PSIP and Skype ?
My pals use skype on a PC - sad I know but they send me email in word docs which is sadder - Reading between the lines PSIP is not an alternative to Skype in that my pals need to use PSIP as well? If I am wrong about that and PSIP is compatible with Skype, could I suggest that the PSIP pages have an...

Suspend/resume script
First, I can't believe that nobody else wants to suspend their laptops, or that nobody else is having this problem: Immediate Resume after Suspend using echo -n mem > /sys/power/state At this site http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problems_with_ACPI_suspend-to-ram I find the following advice: If a resum...

Toshiba Portege - boot problem
Hi All,
Am I the only one getting a stack trace at boot? There is lots to the message but I wrote down some points that might be key - I have _no idea_
EIP
process Khelper
call tree run_workqueue
Am about to try a frugal install... I might be gone for some time...

Thanks Lobster for the LaTex to png - a great tool for putting formula on a web-page. Re tetex, close but no cigar. It installed but then complains about fmt and cnf files not found. AND THEN, I installed the manual typed man tetex and was taken to the wikipedia entry that says don't use tetex, use ...

How to install LaTeX?
OK so there isn't a PET with latex in the title, and the Latex site says "Linux Your system distribution or vendor has probably provided a TeX system including LaTeX. Check your usual software source for a TeX package." I have done this before ... So searching for "latex" on the ...

My machine has no swap. Can I fix that? (Solved)
This old vaio has 128M of ram and guess what! SeaMonkey thinks it wants 130M of memory! I have had a bit of a surf and people seem to expect Puppy to provide swap. I guess I should have provided a swap partition, but can I either a) run fdisk after the fact without loosing data, or b) simply provide...

what happened to double click roll-up/shading/shaddow ?
I think I'm using JWM in a new puppy 3.01, and the official JWM web page says "double click the title bar will shaddow the window. Not on this puppy. It maximises the window. It does have "Shade" in the menu, but nothing seems to reference double clicking or shade in the preferences i...

How to boot Puppy not WinXP? (Solved)
Hi All, I have been away in Mac Land (the boss made me do it) but want to program some micro processors which seems to require a running Windows box. When will they learn! Fired up my lovely old vaio pcg-z505fa (the FA _does_ stand for "fuck all" which is what it came with) and, after much...
