If you run quickcountry or quicksetup is the UTF-8 encoding checkbox ticked or not? (I don't have Slacko 5.6, but I am assuming that it still has quickcountry and/or quicksetup. Please correct me if I am wrong.) It sounds like the problem is not that special characters (é, ã, ç, ñ, ß) can't be used,...

A new version of frisbee, which will have a fix for this, is currently being developed by rerwin. If you can't wait for it to be released, you can make a back-up of your /etc/init.d/frisbee file and then replace it with an experimental patched version of that file as instructed at http://www.murga-l...

You're welcome. I am pleased to know that someone was actually able to slog through one of the windiest of my long-winded posts, that you found a "treasure trove of information" in it, and that it helped you to understand and fix the problem. I'll admit that I sometimes find the need to st...

Hi OscarTalks, Thanks for testing Psync 2.9x. It is good to know that it is (mostly) working OK for someone other than myself. You discussed a couple of issues which I will respond to in separate sections below: Issue 1 -- Named icons missing from some buttons in earlier versions Issue 2 -- Icons mi...

I had a chance to look at this some more. . . . I am using a less than ideal test to determine when the scan is complete. I am waiting for a status line that says "wpa_state=COMPLETED". Doing that may not be reliable, since I've found no documentation that guarantees that that exact line i...

OK, Never mind these first few paragraphs. I see that your new post indicates you have discovered how to use the --root-directory option. Feel free to skip down to the green UPDATE section at the end of this post. grub-set-default needs to know where your grub configuration files are. By default it...

Richard, The other day I rebooted into Precise 5.7.1 and started to capture the pdiag*.tar.gz files that you requested for both the unmodified frisbee from Precise 5.7.1 and the version with my patch. But I ran into some confusion. You said you were specifically interested in the dhcpcd.log and wpa_...

PcurlFTP depends upon pure-ftpd, which needs the /etc/shells file to determine if a file is a valid user shell. Create a file with the following text and save it as "/etc/shells". /bin/sh /bin/bash /bin/ash If you have any other user shells in your Puppy, you could also list those. But /bi...

Psync 2.9x (2.10 beta)

As Rob explained in the above post , last June we ran into an incompatibility between recent versions of hwclock and Psync 2.8. I came up with a fix, and discussed it with Rob. Since he was very busy at the time, he kindly let me poke around in his code and release Psync 2.9, which he then attached ...

Wilhelm,

When you use ROX-Filer to look at the directory that has the troublesome names in it, are the names displayed in red or in black?

the hiawatha howto tells the fastcgiserver extension overrides the cgihandler Yes, that is true. If you choose to use FastCGI, there is no need to define a CGIhandler for PHP files since, in that case, UseFastCGI and FastCGIserver define how PHP files are to be handled. I don't know if UseFastCGI a...

You're welcome.

For display on your laptop, you can try this:

Code: Select all

stty -icanon ; TERM="linux" mocp | tee /dev/tty1 ; stty icanon
When I try this I usually get a few characters out of place on the remote console, but pressing Ctrl-L or Ctrl-R clears them up, at least temporarily.

dlopeman, I am wondering if you saw my earlier (Dec-19 11:47 UTC-4) post which suggested how to restore your /etc/init.d/frisbee file by downloading your original frisbee .pet file. That would save you from the need to "pull the frame off the wall and stuff..." to install a CDROM drive. Or...
