unexpected selective sync

Noticed one quirk, related to selective sync On most of my computers I use the "selective sync" dropbox option, which allows me to choose which folders I want to have downloaded to my computer. This allows to have large files/directories only on DB cloud storage that are not filling up loc...

awesome!

This is great! I agree with the above poster that cut/paste instructions in the help section might be handy for those who don't normally touch a terminal ALSO: This is just what I was looking for, and actually ADDS functionality to dropbox. I was looking for an easy way to download my entire dropbox...

Thanks! I think this answers for my purposes.
I don't think there would be anything too sophisticated in place.

Good to know about the safe-boot/hibernate. Intent is not to ever mount the harddrive, but now will be extra careful.

Yes--waiting for a cheap used computer!

Are you able to run your remoting software in a virtual machine? I personally don't use any remote software. It is a laptop provided by my work that I use when I travel and at home. I do know that when it is physically at my work and connected to their network, they push updates, etc. To get someth...

How private is Puppy from wifi?

If using a work computer from home on own wifi, how private is puppy? In this case, booting from DVD/CD with save file on USB. Harddrive is never really activated. Would the computer be safe from keyloggers and other employer monitoring software? Other issues to consider? (Need to use it to pay bil...

when I boot up dropbox starts but doesn't remember my account. I have to to through the signup process again, although it does then remember my dropbox folder location. I got this working via a clunky amount of steps, but works. Perhaps Whitesnow could incorporate some of my steps into his pet, whi...

Dropbox

Ok, this is how I got dropbox working on a frugal install of lupu 5.2.8. I don't quite understand "what" I did (I'm a noob), but it seems to work ok I make no promises. Also, if you already have dropbox installed, and are using this to upgrade, first please make a copy of the materials in ...

regarding the font tearing: this happens on my system if I have the volume slider bar showing. (and goes away if I close it). Just thought I'd suggest an easy possible fix.

good luck.

not sure if I know the in's and out's of what happened. That said, one weakness of puppy linux is that the desktop can easily get messed up (also when restoring savefiles)

I've found the desktop restore pet very useful to prevent such problems

This thread has a case study for a computer with less ram (16mb). The thread is old, but some of the tips might still stand http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=36678008&t=48214 If I were in your hands I'd look at Mean puppy http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=58997#...

can increasing ram, increase speed? Short answer is yes. Longer answer: for a computer with 256 ram, you would probably want to set up a swap partition on your harddrive (easy to do with gparted, which is part of puppy) look around for instructions in the forums, or come back here. A swap partition...

the nice thing about puppy is that if you do a "frugal install" it doesn't need its own partition. Reformatting isn't necessary. It can be on the same partition as windows or your mint install.

I was wondering which would be the best version for my Slacko
I think most puppies have pfind build in already (but I don't use slacko so I"m not positive)

Thanks for the reply Zigbert-- so it seems that there is not an easy solution already out there using pfind that I am missing? Oh well-- its a shame since I like the speed simplicity and integration of pfind in puppy. For others interested, I've started playing with docfetcher . http://docfetcher.so...

I updated to pfind 5.11
(along with an updated gtkdialog and pfilesearch-- both required)

The search results did not change.
Pfind would not search for text within .pdf and .docx files

other suggestions?
