Thanks mikeslr. I use ImageMagick quite a lot (though not as much as Gimp). The commandline can make a lot of things much easier. I haven't noticed ImageMagick use python, though the first thing I always install on Puppy is its devx package, which includes python, so maybe it uses it without me seei...

fernan, that's interesting. That was the problem I was having (no pressure sensitivity) and why I did the things I wrote about in my post above at Wed 12 Oct 2016, 08:38. Since than I have had a couple of bad computer crashes, so I've gone back to frugal Puppy Lucid 528. I should set the Wacom table...

fernan, I've used Wacom tablets on older Puppies. It can be a hassle to set up, but you can probably get yours working with your favored OS. Even if a newer Puppy can detect it, it can still be annoyingly complicated to get it to recognise pressure for painting. I have my Intuos Pen and Touch Small ...

Hi micko, thanks for the reply. Sorry for the wrong place. I searched but this was the most appropriate-looking thread that came up. Is there a better one? You could try exiting from X first to see if 'reboot' or 'poweroff' work (as a debugging measure). Nope, didn't work. As before it looks like it...

slacko puppy 632 problems
Hi folks, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this request. If I should post it elsewhere let me know, please. I had a frugal install of Slacko Puppy 6.3.2 for a while until I was satisfied it did what I wanted. I'm really impressed with it, so did a full install. Unfortunately I then fo...

Thanks phat7. I searched for it but was unable to find it as a bug description.
The latest version of leafpad is at:
http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/leafpad/
leafpad-0.8.18.1.tar.gz is right near the bottom of the listing on that page.

full fix
I couldn't leave this alone. The version of leafpad that I was using is Leafpad 0.8.17, which is the one that came with Slacko Puppy 6.3.2. However I just tried loading files with ':' in the pathname into a more recent version -- Leafpad 0.8.18.1, and it works fine. So, compile version Leafpad 0.8.1...

A bug in leafpad loading pathnames with ':', and a fix
If I have a directory name that contains ':' somewhere in the pathname then leafpad won't load the file. I have a lot of audiobooks, mostly from Librivox. I like to collect multiple part audio files under a single directory and name the directory as the book name and the duration of all the audio fi...

Sylvander, oh dear. I just checked some of my scanned images and they don't have much metadata at all stored in them. That's certainly something to be aware of in the future. There might be a quick way to sort through all the salvaged images. If you divide the time up into say, half an hour each day...

Sylvander, I used photorec to recover as many of the files as possible to another drive. Unfortunately the directory structure was irretrievable. The problem with photorec is that it has no idea what the files' names are, so it gives them uninformative names, and it doesn't know where they are suppo...
