Puppy 4.2rc2 has a problem with the intel ipw2200 wireless pci card - it will not recognize it. Md5sum is right. Dmesg shows kernel tainted.

Works great in 4.1.2

Broadcom 4306 follow-up

I've been trying a couple of things. 1st, looking at /lib/firmware showed that there was no firmware loaded. Since dmesg indicated that microcode_5.fw was missing, I copied the firmware from Puppy version 4 to that subdirectory. I got the adapter to do a "ifconfig up" without any errors. T...

Reply to Barry's Questions regarding zd1211 firmware

Barry, I tried both of the actions you requested. PS shows zd1211rw twice. Moving the firmware from /lib/firmware/zd1211 to /lib/firmware doesn't help. The error message is "error loading firmware zd1211/zd1211_ub error -2. In addition, in terminal using "ifconfig wlan0 up" gives me a...

zd1211rw firmware error

Using a usb wifi adapter that has the zydas zd1211rw chip, the adapter appears as wlan0, but the firmware doesn't load - dmesg shows error -2, firmware not loading. I tried to modprobe zd1211rw in terminal, but I get firmware not found.

It worked in 2.17 through 4.0.

Wireless usb zd1211rw

Same issue as with alpha 1. Usb network card detected - wlan0, but after trying to connect with the network manager, I get no networks detected. Looking into dmesg, it reports "can't load firmware error -2. This adapter has worked in all versions of Puppy from 2.17.1 through 4.0 k 2.26.25 beta.

Wireless is eth1 in 2.6.21.7 and wlan0 in 2.6.25

In my laptop with a broadcom 4306 network card (eth1 in 2.6.21.7 and wlan0 in 2.6.25, I get 15 networks around me with 2.6.21.7 and 5 with 2.6.25. The same thing happens with my desktop that has a Zydas zd1211rw chip. Why the difference in eth1 and wlan0 along with the wireless network lack of sensi...

I can't seem to find where lsusb is now. It's always been in the menu, but in puppy 4 it's gone and you can't get it through the terminal(that hasn't changed).

Just tried the aircrack-ng pet. It works, but is of no use without the complete aircrack-ng suite, that includes airodump-ng, aireplay-ng, and many more. It would be a great help if the complete suite was a pet. Also, they are now up to changeset 857 - it's an ongoing and moving program. Thanks for ...

Thanks for aircrack-ng. It's a fun program to play with and to do security testing on my network. I'm going to see how long it takes to crack my wpa. Keep up the good work. By the way, aircrack-ng is in a continuing process that seems to get updated regularly, so you might want to update this module...

Is this version the latest changeset - 853 or the original 1.0 beta? Alot of changes have been incorporated, including patched drivers for injection.

tempestuous- I did a modprobe zd1211b and it is recognized. The wifi adapter shows as wlan0. I believe this is the first time it has shown up that way. If I remember correctly, in the other versions and some other distros it shows as eth1. Problem is now connecting. Even if I turn off wep or wpa, it...

tempetuous- I tried your directions: booted, did the pet, and then reboot with a save. When the livecd booted it did not recognize the wifi adapter. I then, modprobed zd1211, and it still did not recognize it. I then unplugged and replugged the adapter and looked at the dmesg. It showed the followin...

tempestuous- Thanks for your reply on the zd1211rw driver. While it may be unreliable, it worked flawlessly in the puppy versions I've been using 2.15 through 3.0 I'm using the Airlink 3055 usb adapter and it is simply not recognized in this version. I really wanted to use this version because every...

Love the revision. Fast and just works! I have one thing that is confusing me. I'm trying use my usb wifi adapter that is a zd1211 ZyDas chip. The firmware is always under /lib/firmware/zd1211. It's not there. When I look at /lib/modules, there is a text that talks about a post-executable package fo...
