A heated debate continues to rage about the legality of facial recognition software, which is increasingly being used by governments and law enforcement. Not to mention the number of private companies that use some kind of facial recognition.
Many people are concerned about facial recognition software being used to track their movements and the threat to civil liberties that this software poses. While this issue is being debated, there are steps you can take to avoid some facial recognition software, both online and in person.

Faceshield
Faceshield is an Instagram-like filter you can apply to your photos that blocks face detection online. It adds noise to specific regions of your face such as eyes, nose or jaw line to 'fool' the face detector into thinking there is no face in the photo. The photo is still recognizable, but the face detectors catastrophically fail!

Why should you care? Your facial image data is incredibly valuable and sensitive because it is key to your identity. The fear is that detailed profiles of yourself may be created if your data gets in the wrong hands.

This company that produces the face-shieled image of you will have both the non face-shieled image of you and the sielded version. Therefore they will be able to correlate the two.
