Some of you may know I have a tincans&string rural ISP; just lost my 3rd attempt to d/l the multi-session, got up to 40 some megs and the connection quit. It was well under 28K the remaining time was going up insterad of down. Been trying since 3 this afternoon... prob'ly somebody is calling- that seems to break the connect. oh well, I can always get up early & try again.
its like putting Christmas off for a day.

Have you tried the nluug -mirror?
It is 10 times faster.
http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/distr/puppylinux/
If that does not help, we might split it.

what are you using to download? if use you use:-
wget -c http://whatevertheURL/puppy-1.0.6-mozilla.iso
then wget will resume wherever you got up to before being cut off.

Guys- thanks. It was that old devil Microsoft; I was doing the dl in XP because I haven't managed to get the modem over 28.8 in Puppy (there is something about 'clearing config data in BIOS' to speed it up that I haven't figured out).
So in its typical self-centered way, not one but two huge 'cricket-al updates' were squeezing themselves in while I was at their mercy in the middle of the Puppy dl. Only found out when I went to shut off the machine and it did that 'if you shut me off now I'll never work again' message. It's true too, interrupting an MS update can be OS fatal.
Gates seems to be grasping at straws again- this just in:
Last week, Microsoft announced the first fruits of that effort--products called Windows Live and Office Live. Windows Live combines many of Microsoft's existing MSN services into an advertising-supported product for consumers, while Office Live is a set of services, some free and some paid, aimed at small businesses.

If anything will boost the popularity of Open Office, AbiWord, and Linux in general, its this really dumb idea of adding advertising to the OS & office suites. Wait'll the popups start hitting the spreadsheet & database users
Also, there was a story today about the coming Chinese OSs. They are a lot closer than anybody thinks.

Really? Gates is actually dumber than I thought! What if I was updating Windows, and CraBOOM! The powerline is smited from above by a bolt of pure energy! If I was actually using an operating system that's that poorly designed in the first place, I guess I'd deserve it, but still....It's true too, interrupting an MS update can be OS fatal.

Well hmm.. if Puppy only requires the occasional tiny service pack, coming out about a week after a release...
Whereas XP only requires many huge service packs, coming out ages after a release....
I'll settle for my cute little lap-dog thank you.
