OlddogNewtricks
Thanks for that explanation. However, with a great amount of respect, I am probably a little more confused now.

1. Just to be clear, I got the 30 sec delay with the latest version ie 214X15, which as you say has ttuuxxx's gb.gz in /lib/keymaps.

I confirm I have it working okay with UK and French keyboards. It was when I tested it using UK and BE and CA that it went bad with a delay. I guess there will be other combinations which may have missing files where it goes wrong. My concern is not so much for me (I'm happy with it) but for others who need other keyboards.

2.
MHHP's fix for the Advanced Xorg button, replaces the option to either change your default keyboard layout from US to something else or add another to it.
Not nit picking but either I don't understand this or do you mean...
MHHP's fix for the Advanced Xorg button, gives the option to either change your default keyboard layout from US to something else or add another to it
Please don't misunderstand me...I think MHHP's mod is an elegant piece of work and a very useful fetaure. It's just that with the current state of the keyboard files there is the possibility of a boot delay, which new-comers may not understand/appreciate.

Best regards and cheers
Dave

It can be restarted by clicking on superswitcher in /root/startup, no X restart needed
Yes, a much better way. Thanks for that.

Hello again Dave,

point 1
Got you now, missing keymaps &/or symlinks in /lib/keymaps for other layouts causing the 30 second delay. I believe MHHP posted about this but got no response.

point 2 see pic
The original keyboard wizard comes with this change/add option, MHHP's tinkering lost it, his fix puts it back again
Hope this makes it clear.

Ah, didn't know that. Now I understand. Appreciate it, as ever. :-)
Cheers

Hello :D !

Many posts on the MHHP pup214X_keybd_setter_impr[_fix].pet recently.
As I said here, there's more to it than I took into consideration in my first lame attempt pup214X_keybd_setter_impr.pet  :) :P . Having, since then, read the scripts in question through, and through again, I have concluded that it would be best to revert back to the way way it was before.

For the ones of us using a layout supported by stating the pkeys parameter upon booting up: joy :).
(/lib/keymaps, or /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/i386/*/*.map (if the latter .map is correct, that is).)

I must, presently, advocate that the keyboard-setter scripts are reverted back to the way they were before my, at the time, uninformed thrust at a half-solution  . As I said, in the above cited post, it can be made to work (flawlessy?), though, with some initiated script-fixing.

fwiw :P :) :D /

Partview again

#2209 Post by davesurrey »

I grabbed BK's partview script from puppy 431rc1 and plonked it into /usr/sbin in 214X15.
It half works but does anyone know what migth be missing. Starting in terminal gives no clues.

Would really like to use this.
Thanks
Dave

Hi ttuuxxx,
That's good of you. Partview really does look like a useful app.

I posted a request elsewhere for some help to squash the multi-menus in Gxine bug but no reply so far.

Also trying to track down a count-down timer.

Have a good day.

Okay, clarification time!

ttuuxxx, will you be replacing rxvt with mrxvt or adding it to the final distro? If so, in the original configuration or the rxvt colors?

Just trying to keep things on the right lists, you know.

Thanks,
Sully

Hi Dave, I looked your post and made a quick.

Seems a problem with "ppmtogif" file, just copy this file from /usr/bin in Puppy 4.3.1 to the same path in Puppy 2.14x. Note that the 4.3.1 file is smaller than 214x but it works fine.

Greetings,

I talked to soon. There´s and error with partview for CD/DVD drives, if you see my previuos post there are a total size of 0 for hdb (my CD-ROM), it search for sr* partitions and then replace the correct Total size for media drives.

Well I could correct this small problem, just replacing the sr* case for a iso* case assigned to a new variable "ATIPE".

Now It shows the correct size for my media drives  .

I attach the new partview script and the needed "ppmtogif" file from Puppy 4.3.1.
