Puppy 4.2 Problems with PPA Printer Solved!
Puppy 4.2 Problems with PPA Printer Solved!
I use an HP710C Deskjet Printer connected via the parallel interface which prints fine in CUPS until Puppy 4.1.2 after I had copied the required files manually:
1. /etc/pnm2ppa.conf
2. /usr/local/bin/calibrate_ppa
3. /usr/local/bin/pnm2ppa
4. /usr/share/cups/model/HP-Deskjet-710C-pnm2ppa.ppd
In Puppy 4.2 every printing-job is finished by CUPS with this comment: stopped "/ioerror in --.outputpage--"
4.2 stores a lot of CUPS-files that used to be in /etc in /usr/etc. May the solution be found here?
After searching help on the CUPS home page I have set LogLevel debug in /usr/etc/cups cupsd.conf and restarted cups with /etc/init.d/cups restart. But now nothing at all is logged in var/log/cups.
Has anybody solved this problem?

Have a similar problem with installing an HP Deskjet 3915 to 431 (yes, I posted about this before, but that was with 4.1.2, and that was never solved). Getting: stopped "/ioerror in --.outputpage--" also.
But here's the weirdo: I haven't got any file named pnm2ppa either in /usr/local/bin or /usr/bin, or anywhere else.
What's that mean?

The file pnm2ppa is a printer driver for the HP 700 series and is installed from a package on another thread.
What driver are you using? According to openprinting.org, your DJ 3915 is included in the HPIJS package from here.

The only drivers I've used on it since 4.1.1 are from a 2.8.6 hpijs
package.
I haven't found another package that contains drivers for the
3900 series deskjets.....Haven't been able to find a 2.8.6 package
again either.
Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.

rcrsn51: Yes, that was the package on the system. I downloaded it again and replaced the original with it, but no go. Getting the same error message again.
However,
rjbrewer: I found an hpijs 2.8.6. package and installed that and after a considerable amount of fiddling got CUPS to recognize it, so it could install the driver, and it works! Don't ask me how I did it, exactly. In any case, that was good advice. Actually it runs on the driver for Deskjet 3910 - there is none specifically for the 3915.
This is a major victory; on my puppy 412 I never succeeded to install this printer. This was one of the reasons I chose to upgrade to 431 - in the hope I could get my HP Deskjet to work with it.
So, much obliged for the help, guys.

I'm glad to hear it; it's been a long struggle.
Was thinking about putting my files on a floppy and sending
them to you, but I had stripped the drivers down to just the
ones I needed for my 3930. Just looked and I do have the
3910 and 3920 ppd.gz.
Where did you find the 2.8.6 package.

rjbrewer: I googled hpijs 2.8.6. There are several sources, and I am not now quite sure where I got it, but the file I downloaded was hplip_2.8.6.b.orig.tar.gz. A good source is here:
http://dir.filewatcher.com/d/Debian/Oth ... 25239.htmlseems a good place to start with a whole list of download sources.
