Puppy's fonts aren't as crisp as Windows'
I have installed Puppy 5.2 with ease. The whole process took under 30 minutes to configure to my the way I like it. I think Puppy is great.
It runs fast and flawlessly.
However, there is one small issue that I am trying to figure out.
The fonts when I browse the web do not look as clear. I use Firefox and my computer is a pretty new Acer with NVIDA GEforce drivers.
I installed the full drivers.
I do not mind the puppy smoothing of fonts (that might help even), rather, I mean, some look a little less persfect than what I am use to.
Maybe it is the default font I am using that is different than Windows?
It is not a big difference at all, but it is noticeable.
Is there setting I am missing or configuration to make it look better? I am pretty new to Puppy and just use the out of the box desktop manager and default settings on most things.
Thanks

Most browsers have options for what fonts to use.
Nvidia drivers come with a program for controlling visual quality.
Usually under menu->system->system status and config->Nvidia X server settings

Re: Crisp fonts
It's not clear how you have tried to improve fonts so far, but here's what I do in Firefox.mbiernat wrote:The fonts when I browse the web do not look as clear. 1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Content
2. Change the default font to DejaVu Sans
3. Click on Advanced.
4. Change those fonts to DejaVu Sans
5. UNcheck the box "Allow pages to choose their own fonts".

Thank you very much for all the replies. I will try the above mentioned suggestions and do a little more research based on some forum links relating to the same subject.
I am going to try to use Puppy as my main OS (for reasons like amazing speed and its just fun to use) and just trying to tweak things to perfection. Font quality is the last piece for me.
I noticed in the latest release it really has become much easier to use is a real full OS with many choices of programs easy to install.

Re: Puppy's fonts aren't as crisp as Windows'
Probably everyone here will disagree wtih my advice but I have a NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. I tried two of the Nvidia drivers in the pet packages plus a few more I found in tarballs on the web. Finally I ended up using the generic nv driver in xvesa. To my ancient eyes with bifocals it looks better than the official drivers. Of course, the generic won't work with advanced stuff like 3D.mbiernat wrote: The fonts when I browse the web do not look as clear. I installed the full drivers.
You can install MS True Type fonts in Puppy. That should eliminate any difference from Windows. I just copied Arial over and it works in SeaMonkey and abiword.

As people have mentioned, this has been discussed before and the MS fonts can be used.
A couple of useful points:
- The user SitHeelSpeak looked pretty seriously into this.
- There are different tweaks for if you're using a CRT monitor or LCD/LED (like subpixel rendering)
