Configuring Mouse middle button

#1 Post by UncleBaldie »

Hi guys,
I have just started using TahrPup 6.0.5, after an absence from Puppy for a while. *Sorry !*
And I have to say, I am enjoying using puppy again enormously. So simple, so fast, and no annoying su/sudo popping up every time I want to do anything.

I apologise in advance if this question seems somewhat dumb.
Is it possible to configure the mouse wheel button to bring up on the screen, the list of workspaces (desktops) and what is open in each workspace. As Xfce does. I find this very useful, and miss it.

Many thanks,
Phil

I don't know if Tahr using the JWM configuration tool in Woof-CE, but Slacko does...
--> Setup --> Desktop --> Shortcuts

Defining mouse shortcuts is very simple, but I don't know if JWM supports a menu to choose desktop... anyone ?

Thanks for the reply, Zigbert.

Tahr does use JWM, and it is possible to add keyboard shortcuts. But how you add a mouse click I don't know, nor what the command is to display the desktop list.
There is the JWMDesk Manager, but I can't see anyway of adding mouse shortcuts.

If anyone has any ideas I would welcome them.

I assume that tharpup uses the new JWM 2.3, which allows to bind mouse buttons to tray buttons. But before assigning mouse buttons the question remains: What "desktop list"? There is none. That's why I had to roll my own (you can still find an older version here ).

Thanks, zigbert, for your help.
I did visit that thread, but as you say, he seems to have withdrawn JWMDesk.
I have posted on that thread, maybe he will get back to me.

Thanks once again for your perseverance !

Ooh, its good to be back with Puppy !

Hi mochimoppel,

I checked in PPM, and the current Tahr version is 1.3. Seems a bit old to me ?
Thanks for the link - I'll take a look.

What counts is your JWM version, not the Tahr version (Edit: I see from your other thread that you mean JWMDesk version. Irrelevant as you don't need JWMDesk)

But even with the newest JWM version you may not get what you want. You can now have mouse buttons start custom commands when you click tray buttons, but not when you click the desktop - which I assume is what you are after. As before only menus, not applications or commands, can be mapped to clicks on the desktop, but doing so might now lead to conflicts with the newly introduced tray button clicks. In my case X crashes. Another reason for me to avoid the newest JWM
