Does not work. :(
Just to confirm you tested the suggestion from Fred? it should not need force argument:
fredx181 wrote:Hi francois.E

Here's new obshutdown-porteuswheezy_0.1.1-1_i386.deb.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByBgCD ... sp=sharing

I think you said you use Porteus-Wheezy, the one with kernel 3.9.11-porteus , right?
In that case you need to uninstall the obshutdown package first:

Code: Select all

apt-get purge obshutdown
Then open a terminal in the folder where you downloaded the deb and do:

Code: Select all

dpkg -i obshutdown-porteuswheezy_0.1.1-1_i386.deb
Then you can install xfce4-session without failiure.

Note that the window-manager that is running is "openbox" with some xfce components added.
This means that installing xfce4-session alone doesn't work because xfce has no "control".
What I would do is: install a minimal xfce4, like this:

Code: Select all

apt-get install xfce4-session xfwm4 xfce4-utils
And then change in /root/.xsession the line:

Code: Select all

exec openbox-session
To:

Code: Select all

exec startxfce4
Then logout and back in.
Tell me if you need more help.

Congratulate

#2363 Post by sklimkin »

Hi All!

New page "DebianDog - beta version" I liked it.
I want to congratulate and thank all the participants in the development "DebianDog" the successful completion of the first ( and most difficult ) phase of work.

For 4 months has created a new OS with unique capabilities.
I hope that current and future users will appreciate it.

My special thanks want to address to Tony and Fred: you have done those things that I wanted to see in other interesting implementations of GNU/Linux and did not find them.
Now "DebianDog" there are opportunities and tools. :D

Sergey.

Hi Toni
First, congratulations with DebianDog and the new thread, very well written and lots of info.

When you first started with this project you probably couldn't have imagined an outcome like this :)

I'm learning about linux for a couple of years now, but I learned more in the last 4 months than all the time before!

Second, I'm disappointed because I see no wallpaper on the openbox_xfce screenshot :(
You mentioned something like "no wallpaper" in one of your previous posts but I thought it had to do with the missing sleep commands in the autostart script.
For me wallpaper shows, but appearantly not for you.
Can you update the iso?, I made a change in config file for xfdesktop that may very well solve it.

Changed DebianDog-Porteus-openbox_xfce-beta.iso:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByBgCD ... sp=sharing

Also attached screenshot of how it should be.

Sergey, Thanks for your kind words!

Fred

I confirmed new topic.
As for the Jwm version, Japanese indication is severe.
On the other hand, the Xfce version is usable in a good feeling. :lol:

Because I introduced a procedure to a Japanese forum,
people trying it in Japan will increase. :wink:

The icon of the desktop is deleted.

Yes, I never thought DebianDog will become as good 5 months ago :)
Same here, I can say I learned almost all I know about linux since this project started.

Sorry, Fred. I thought there is no wallpaper since you did not mention it. The strange thing is I do not get wallpaper on my Toshiba 512Mb RAM laptop also with both iso.
I'm downloading the last one and I will replace it in the next hour. I will write here if the wallpaper is OK there.

I'm glad the xfce version works well for Japan localization.
You need to load extra module for /usr/share/locale files with Jwm/Icewm version and also to return Debian default menu from System -> Menu Debian.

Anyway if XFCE version works with Japan there is no need to try jwm version.

Toni, I just wanted to second the congratulations by Fred and Sergey. Well done, you have put a lot of effort in and made a good write-up to start the new thread! But well done also Fred, your combined ideas have produced something very special I feel. My own inputs were minimal, but it was a real pleasure to be involved anyway.

I've downloaded and booted both isos. I also have no wallpaper in openbox version; hopefully your fix Fred will sort that out though. Otherwise, all booted straight out of the box this time (I made no mistakes in my menu.lst!); the only problem I have is that I can't decide which flavour I like best!

Hi, Fred.
New iso uploaded and the thread link and wallpaper updated, but the wallpaper is not the Linux-Village one.
Is this the wallpaper you also see on boot?

Thanks, I tried it at once.
An application of the Japanese font was necessary.

Hi, William.
We all have our share in DebianDog so it is as I wrote it in the thread.
I just helped to put all together in one iso and all codding job was Terry's and Fred's work.
All I give my thanks in the thread have their share in DebiaDog one way or another.
Lets hope the result will be useful for more people than us only.

Hi Toni
New iso uploaded and the thread link and wallpaper updated, but the wallpaper is not the Linux-Village one.

Thanks, but no, I see the Linux-Village wallpaper, which is my intention.

Can you post the contents of: /root/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-desktop.xml ?

You did always see a wallpaper on Porteus-Wheezy before?
EDIT: wIith the test iso you saw the Linux-Village wallpaper everytime when you logged in with puppy, right?
I think if I use config from puppy in root, that should solve it then.
Can you try if that works then for you by copying /home/puppy/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-desktop.xml to /root/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/ and overwrite it?

Hi, Fred:
xfce4-desktop.xml for root in latest iso:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<channel name="xfce4-desktop" version="1.0">
  <property name="desktop-icons" type="empty">
    <property name="icon-size" type="uint" value="33"/>
    <property name="tooltip-size" type="double" value="64.000000"/>
    <property name="use-custom-font-size" type="bool" value="true"/>
    <property name="font-size" type="double" value="8.000000"/>
    <property name="single-click" type="bool" value="true"/>
    <property name="file-icons" type="empty">
      <property name="show-trash" type="bool" value="false"/>
    </property>
  </property>
  <property name="backdrop" type="empty">
    <property name="screen0" type="empty">
      <property name="monitorLVDS1" type="empty">
        <property name="workspace0" type="empty">
          <property name="last-image" type="string" value="/usr/share/backgrounds/xfce/desktop.jpg"/>
        </property>
      </property>
    </property>
  </property>
</channel>
xfce4-desktop.xml for puppy in latest iso:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<channel name="xfce4-desktop" version="1.0">
  <property name="desktop-icons" type="empty">
    <property name="icon-size" type="uint" value="33"/>

    <property name="use-custom-font-size" type="bool" value="true"/>
    <property name="font-size" type="double" value="8.000000"/>
    <property name="single-click" type="bool" value="true"/>
    <property name="file-icons" type="empty">
      <property name="show-trash" type="bool" value="false"/>
    </property>
  </property>
  <property name="backdrop" type="empty">
    <property name="screen0" type="empty">
      <property name="monitorLVDS1" type="empty">
        <property name="workspace0" type="empty">

        </property>
      </property>
    </property>
  </property>
</channel>
I see the same wallpaper in puppy account and root account in latest iso.
You did always see a wallpaper on Porteus-Wheezy before?
Yes, no problems with any of the 3 versions Porteus-Wheezy.
EDIT: wIith the test iso you saw the Linux-Village wallpaper everytime when you logged in with puppy, right?

Does not help. I see the same wallpaper for puppy account also. I will do tests with the testing iso and try to copy the file from there to the latest iso.

We really finished the most difficult work. Without you and without Sfs solution for porteus-boot with debian kernel DebianDog was not going to be what it is now.

Hi, Fred.

Is it easy to modify initrd1.xz for porteus-boot for different kernels?
I like to make porteus initrd file for each separate kernel archive.
I will add at least one more Pae newer kernel later.
Can you give my instructions what I need to change in initrd1.xz to make it work for different kernel?
I'm sure you already gave such information in this thread but it is hard to find it.
Thanks in advance!

And one more thing:
I edited this thread first post with information for Porteus-Wheezy.
If you need any changes about Porteus-Wheezy information just write here.

Toni
