Emails have not changed for years...on eof the few things on the web that has not mutated into sludge and most spam prevention involves not handing out your email on the web quite so freely.

I still use thunderbird 2 and that was only updated out of interest. The numbers game played with chrome/firefox meant thunderbird had to follow suit so we are not necessarily looking at 10 major changes in a program's design that the version suggests.

In view of Mike's post above, it sent me looking for Thunderbird-2 and I found this post http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=31891 but the links no longer work for Thunderbird v2 and 3 so as well as making Thunderbird 12 available I have also included Thunderbird-2.0.0.24.pet. On my non Puppy Linux installs. It requires mplayer being installed to work.
I have not yet tried on my Macpup, Carolina, or Slack0 installs yet.

I thought you might like it in your media section.
I usually use xmms,moc,or cmus and downloaded .pls files for streaming radio
outside of using PupRadio. Just lighter on resources is all.

I thought you might like to know though is all. I love your site and I posted about it
where I mod at which is a Windows/Mac specific kinda forum. I am the only Linux red
headed stepchild there.

I had a go at cli-radio but was unable to get it working although I was amazed that you actually go this on devientart of all places, that would be the last place I would look for software. It is after all an arty type of site.

I did track down wmms and gave it a go but had limited success which in fairness may be due to my hardware (no sound from PC but using a cheapo USB sound card for sound) the equalizer doesn't work and couldn't get radio to stream. Although others may get better mileage than me but I will add it to 412 Collection when I get some time.

Your mention of Thunderbird 2 was indeed fortunate. I am a user of Yahoo Mail and Firefox 17 ESR and out of nowhere I was unable to open emails or access the settings on Yahoo Mail. After much head scratching I discovered the problem was FF17, I tried FF24ESR and all was well with Yahoo Mail.

I have always been happy to use webmail but thought I would give Thenerbird 2 a try as you have been using it happily for some time and was delighted with it and now prefer it to the web interface on a browser.

There was some minor irritations; couldn't get the dictionaries to install but after a little searching I found that the way dictionaries were installed were changed by Mozilla but the fix was easy enough. Go to the Thunderbird directory (usr/share/thunderbird/) create a directory called 'dictionaries' and put the files extracted ( can be done with xarchiver) from the dictionary file (.xpi extension) there and the spelling now works.

I would have liked a tray icon that popped up when new mail arrived and I found this too which are Thunderbird addons

FireTray - Which places an icon in the tray, closing Thunderbird minimises it to the tray making it TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident). Cliking the icon restores Thunderbird. Get it here-

deadbeef also makes a great batch file converter...add to playlist..select all and right click choose convert.
It managed some stubborn aac files i had that other ways did not.

In preferences you can change the displayed name to quorn for vegetarians

Thunderbird 2..check preferences....general and you will see...When new messages arrive...'show an alert' tick box and customise... always worked for me...get popups even when watching a movie.

Been a long time since I have posted to this forum, but I had to stop lurking and chime in here. I was intrigued by Tuxtoo's website and had a visit. Very nice job and a lot of great stuff there. I downloaded a few things and went and dug out my copy of 4.1.2 barebones and had a go. I have a project in mind and I hope that this will work nicely.Again great job on the website and keep up the great work. I'll keep you posted as my project progresses.

Hi Mike, Sent you an email.

The project that I have started is to build a 4.1.2 Puppy to use for everyday needs. For the last seven years I have been using my Mac, but age is starting to catch up to it. The Mac is going upstairs and will be used only for important things to try to prolong it's life.

Started with 4.1.2 barebones and have added some things from your site; such as Firefox 15.1, dotpet handler, and the update file. Firefox works very well and can handle everything that I throw at it. Also added wallpapers, different icons, and some extra fonts.

So far all is working pretty well and I'm quite pleased with the progress. All of this was put on a 8 gig thumb-drive with a save file. It boots well on an older PC that I just rebuilt, don't like to throw things away and spend money needlessly.

The one question that I do have is this: started out with my drive icons showing a round bubble when mounted, somehow I messed up and now have the letters "MNTD" instead. Does anyone know to get the round bubble back. Any help would be much appreciated.

Click on the Menu - Desktop - Desktop Icon Switcher. The drive icons depend on which Icon Set you have selected. 'Stardust' has the drive icons with the 'Bubble'

Also using Puppy 412. Great stuff on Tuxtoo's site. Especially interested in the library upgrades for newer versions of programs. Anybody using these new libraries to accommodate newer versions of puppy's basic programs, etc? I would like to know which versions of programs to use with this. Any suggestions?

Just when you thought it was uneasily quiet we are pleased to announce that 412collection is still going strong and under new management. Tuxtoo has moved on to new frontiers and dave64 and myself have taken over the site maintainance.

I really liked 4.11/12... Seemed to show a light touch on old hardware...

But have been slowly moving forward with newer versions. Lupumini has a light touch also - and running Sulu1 (lupusuper1) on my 10+ year old XP laptop (well, I bought it used about 10 years ago... )

And with Rerwin updating and maintaining it....well...

Well there are things you can do to make lucid run really fast but that's another story and rerwin is doing a great job. Disposible puppies are not my cup of tea really...I like systems that give a few years as i hate all that setting up.

Actually dave is working on a pile of site updates which will appear soon...some serious rationalisation of packages and ready for additions.

Another point to note is anything built for 4.12 will work on most any pup...for example a few have grabbed my build of 4.12 friendly dillo and found it useful. Not blowing my own trumpet but apps built for the older systems are usually lighter on dependencies and more compatible.... so its not just for the release in question.
I built the latest JWM for it too... that could be used on Lucid if needed.

Another aspect is for really old hardware as newer kernels may simply not work...cmov...SSE...mms2 etc. I also have never liked hard drives being sd(xx) either.

Anyway see a need and keep filling it.
I have been revisiting Lucid including making a slax build of it... but my main systems are still in the slax6/lenny/4.12 era...well cannot be asked to convert all those juicy sfs I made
