Elon Musk and his dreams coming true

#1 Post by labbe5 »

I like Elon Musk very much. He embodies the American Dream at its best.

His entrepreneurship is best in class. He's one of the movers and shakers of our time, as visionary as Ford who saw each American with a car, and his vision came true.

The sun is so abondant in some countries, once harnessed people will have solar energy for as long as the sun lives on, and no pollution.

Now, lithium being the single most important asset to make this solar revolution a reality, Argentina and Chile are on the brink of becoming the next Saudi Arabia.

Wind turbines are much more economical.

Since the climate gets warmer, I would expect more clouds in the sky.

Wondering, why that genius Elon Musk did not invent the MOONLIGHT collector ..

Tesla's Powerwall 2

#6 Post by labbe5 »

https://techcrunch.com/2016/10/28/tesla ... id=tcdaily

The Powerwall 2.0 has more than twice the energy storage capacity of the original version with 14 kWh capacity. Over double the capacity means double the ability to keep your home humming with guilt-free electric power, culled from the new solar roof offering for private homes that Tesla also unveiled today. Musk said that the Powerwall 2 has enough power to charge lights, sockets and refrigerator for a standard 4 bedroom home for an entire day.

Powerwall 2 should be more affordable over time. Early adopters of new technologies are always paying a premium.

Maybe Musk can get tax breaks for people buying the product....in addition to government-supplied subsidies for the purchase, you know, like is done with his cars. If Tesla is so great, why does it need so much taxpayer-funded help in order to get even a toehold in the marketplace? The cars are rated as being among the least reliable, by the way.

one step forward toward clean energy

#8 Post by labbe5 »

http://www.ecowatch.com/solarcity-tesla ... 8-86077785

Tesla and SolarCity will merge; merger approved by a majority of shareholders (85%). This merger makes sense, since the two companies are shaping a cleaner future.

The tide towards clean energy is well under way, and deniers of climate change will be more and more isolated in their belief climate change is a hoax by the Chinese (quoting Trump).

Moreover, Microsoft is one among many techs adopting clean energy to run its business :
Microsoft Corporation has always been known for their image of environmental protection but this may be their biggest validation to date. The tech company announced on Monday they are in the process converting their datacenter in Cheyenne Wyoming to rely entirely on wind energy. Microsoft will be using three wind farms, two in Kansas owned by Allianz Risk Transfer AG, and the other by Black Hills Corp. in Wyoming. The farms will provide Microsoft with 178 megawatts and 59 megawatts of capacity in wind power respectively.

Tesla and Solar City are both already owned by family members of Elon Musk. The merger is simply another way for them to try to get more government funding.
Maybe Trump will stop the abuse of government choosing winners and losers.

Both Tesla and Solar City are heavily government subsidized with billions of taxpayer dollars keeping those two companies alive.
Tesla and SolarCity continue to report net losses after a decade in business, but the stocks of both companies have soared on their potential; Musk's stake in the firms alone is worth about $10 billion. (SpaceX, a private company, does not publicly report financial performance.)

Musk and his companies' investors enjoy most of the financial upside of the government support, while taxpayers shoulder the cost.
Elon Musk's growing empire is fueled by $4.9 billion in government subsidies

Elon Musk, Crony Capitalist

The only net worth Elon Musk now has is what the government has given him. He is nothing more than a snake-oil salesman with a niche market.

Whether you believe in the climate change thing or not, new power technology need the research anyway. Fossil fuels are finite resource and we need to start on looking for replacements now.
Atomic power could possibly be that with suitable research. All the current atomic stations are based on 50 year old technology that has been advanced little, mainly because of the objections and hence the lack of willingness or money to do the research.

My theory is that the focus on CO2 as the driver of climate change is ridiculous - but it makes CO2 an easy target as "the bad guy" which will enable corporates and governments to spin nuclear power as "the clean alternative".

I feel we are on the verge of a push to use "mini-nuke" technology (similar to submarine nuclear power systems) as small scale landbased (or even underground) power stations and this push will be fuelled by the concept of CO2 producing power stations being "nasty" (which is weird because the CO2 percentage in the atmosphere is truly tiny and could safely increase by a factor of 10 without problems...)

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04 ... ep-closer/

My hope is that we can restrain population growth to a rate that can be supplied by "green" technologies such as wind, solar and tide etc, rather than falling into the trap of supporting nuclear stations on the basis that "they don't produce CO2"

I don't blame man made C02 for climate change; that is cyclic and would happen with or without mankind.

I used to work at Rolls Royce and they produce small reactors for local power plants and ships.
The same problem with waste occurs with those as well, but the public haven't latched on to that yet.
By the time it becomes a serious problem, enough money will hopefully have been allocated to research for us to have found a solution.
The big problem with nuclear power is that it is far too easy and not enough time has been spent developing it.

Man made climate change. If they would include radioactive contamination as a cause I may start believing in the "man made" part of it.

Once again, this "one world order" sect is behind all things bad while proclaiming their own goodness. All you have to do is look at who is pushing
the man-made climate change agenda to see the real reason behind the idea of man-made climate change. Totalitarian control of the world.

How? Inflict a feeling of guilt upon the masses, bombard them with psuedo-scientific blasphemy and milk the populace with a "carbon tax",
LOL, all living things are made of carbon. When they can't squeeze any more juice out of you it will be the soylent green vat for you!

I believe Elon Musk and Tesla will get the rug pulled out from under him and Tesla will have to stand on its own two feet before much longer.

True. Although maybe it's just about "economic" control of the world? I'm not sure they care about how we behave or what religion we belong to as long as we worship their favorite currency and stay a part of their money chain.

Maybe that depends on whether Tesla can become a nett exporter with a financial return to the country. Looks like the US is entering a phase of creating a financial vortex that draws resources and loyalties to itself. If Musk can a) earn foreign dollars and b) encourage Americans to adopt a technology that allows them to run cars off a network of electrical recharge stations then it would feed into the overall gameplan of making the US self sufficient and also kicking off a new construction program (building the recharge infrastructure) to help create the job pool Trump was talking about.

Yup, money money money money, money

The O'Jays said it well.

For the love of money
People will steal from their mother
For the love of money
People will rob their own brother
For the love of money
People can't even walk the street
Because they never know who in the world they're gonna beat
For that lean, mean, mean green
Almighty dollar, money

An island now 100% self-sufficiant thanks to SolarCity and Tesla. They created a micro-grid for the far-off island, only based on solar power.

5 Key groups coming on board with climate solutions

#17 Post by labbe5 »

http://www.ecowatch.com/climate-change- ... 25577.html

Old folks have a nostalgia for their youth, and fossil fuels and big cars, such as SUV, are an integral part of their youth, so they cling to it, as if the loss of fossil fuels and big cars meant the end of the world (rather the end of their world).

Young folks are new to life, and are able to reject old beliefs and old ways, and envision a future without their parents and grand-parents, where they are in charge, and that means a future without old industries, dying industries.

The link above gives hope to young fellows.

Here is a message from pope Francis :

"The 'distraction' or delay in implementing global agreements on the environment shows that politics has become submissive to a technology and economy which seek profit above all else.

"We are not custodians of a museum or of its major artifacts to be dusted each day, but rather co-operators in protecting and developing the life and biodiversity of the planet and of human life present there," Pope Francis said. Modern-day humans have "grown up thinking ourselves owners and masters of nature," with the right to destroy it "without any consideration of its hidden potential and laws of development, as if subjecting inanimate matter to our whims."

And here is a result of climate change :
(in Australia) About two-thirds of reefs have died in the most-impacted northern region stretching 435 miles and researchers estimate the damage could take up to 15 years to recover. Global warming, combined with a strong El Niño, caused disastrous coral bleaching across the world this year.

I'm sorry, but in the UK it is the Yuppies that drive unnecessary Chelsea Tractors as we call them.
You will seldom see country dwellers driving them unless they are absolutely necessary.

Nope just a super strong El Niño, already over and avg temps already 1C lower as the onset of solar cycle 25 expects to be the lowest since and equal to the mini-Ice age of late 1700 to early 1800s. Snow in Saudi Arabia last night. It could be the day after tomorrow like the movie 'Day after tomorrow' Get ready for those poler vortexes.
We are going to wish we made MORE heat capturing green house gasses when able in 4 years, (cooling based on avg temp drop takes 2 years to new lows based on historic cold snaps, about every 220 years )
