Wireless Security Low Spec
Posted: Sun 15 May 2011, 12:37
For ages I avoided wireless networking.
But after buying my Acer Netbook to take to Japan with me
earlier this year
an eMachines eM350-21G16i
http://apcmag.com/notebookhunter/emachi ... 21g16i.htm
I have done plenty of wireless evaluation.
And it ain't pretty.
Having all my multi puppies running off usb...20 plus
has given me the freedom to test test test.
And it's made me quite testy

"""""""""
The Acer netbook runs the Atheros 9285 wireless.
I bought a Netgear DGN2000
and I have been a very happy camper.

As many of you know I run a >>> hidden wireless network.
Meaning that I do not advertise my router's name.
The name is split............. and I have 15 keys
and >> WPA2-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 with Pre-Shared Key)
::::::::
Few Puppies can see this combination.
Fluppy is one of the few.
It has to be said that >> jemimah >> has done sterling work.
Fluppy 06 works with PWireless2.
Fluppy 09 and Frisbee work...and quickly.
Fluppy 10 works with Frisbee.
Fluppy 13 works with Frisbee.
Pupeee 8 works.
Does any other puppy I have tested work????
Yeah! right....echo...echo moment.

Today I saw this >> Kinda Lucid Puppy 006
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=57371
" To sum up, Kinda Lucid Puppy is a "generic" puplet that offers
all traditional Puppy stuff and sticks with Puppy tradition of
small size and home-made applications, while providing a better
usage experience. "
Maybe I was busy at the time...but what a gem.
For >> Iguleder - in a genius moment has given me
Pwireless 2
Network Wizard >> Dougal
Simple Network
Network Wizard Classic >> Barry
They said it couldn't be done
Shouldn't be done
Clashes
Well I have to say to all who listened to that waffle...
that was total bullshit.
In fact it is so good that I just start to run the Simple Network
and whilst that is running I also run >> Pwireless 2
which picks me up straight away.
I rebooted afresh...no save and I just ran Pwireless 2 instead of the above...and a Whoa moment...it just works.
So whilst all the crapola and drivel has been about running as
root and spot....
one of the real security issues >> Better Wireless Security
has been totally ignored here....
No 0ne has improved on our wireless security by default.
It is a total farce and we need to look at it properly.
Wireless will just be more of a force.
It will be cheaper and more widespread.
Iguleder has proven it can be done.
I run Puppy 4.3.1 and cannot get my wireless to work,
no matter how I have approached it.
But this version of 4.3.1 is a goer.
And I am getting to be a better cheat as my
>>>latest April 2011 technique shows.

This is not just a rant.
This is a plea for a comprehensive common sense approach.
But sometimes the boat needs rocking.
I understand that we have great artisans for drivers etc here.
Our numbers grow daily...28000 plus...
including spammers ha! ha!.
Surely someone can get the details from Iguleder
and we can implement them asap.
And a pox on spot.

I have also mentioned Hotspot Shield in the past.
Because of Firesheep and the like.

" Secure your web session, data, online shopping, and personal

corporate offices. "
Maybe someone can give us a Puppy clone eventually.
Yes I know that there is no Linux version...but who knows??
Professor Iguleder...I salute you.
